2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 Plus C118

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Sharper design: The CLA's coupe-sedan shape is modernized with new wheel options, a redesigned grille, and updated LED lighting.

  • Mild-hybrid drivetrain: 48V technology is added to the 2.0-liter engine to improve efficiency and response time.

  • Premium refresh: Richer materials, enhanced MBUX technology, and new interior colors improve everyday usability.

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 Plus C118 doesn’t shout for attention. It’s more the kind of car that catches your eye twice — once for its proportions, and again for its restraint. The update for 2026 is subtle but confident, the kind of design work that shows Mercedes knows how to evolve a form without erasing what worked.

At first glance, the silhouette remains unmistakably CLA: long hood, tapered rear, and that familiar coupe-like roofline that still gives this compact sedan more flair than most in its class. The changes live in the details. The front fascia wears a new star-pattern grille, a design cue now filtering through the brand’s portfolio, and the LED headlights have a sharper, almost crystalline look. The taillights mirror this pattern with more depth and contrast, while the revised rear diffuser and fresh wheel designs—up to 19 inches—add just the right dose of aggression.

It’s still one of the prettiest compact sedans around, especially when you view it from the rear quarter. The stance is tighter, cleaner. Less clutter, more confidence.

Inside, Small Touches with Big Effect

Inside the CLA 250 Plus C118, Mercedes continues to nudge its entry models closer to the ambience of its higher tiers. The dual 10.25-inch display setup now runs the latest MBUX infotainment with faster response and simpler menus. Physical climate controls have been minimized, though not entirely banished, and the new Nappa leather steering wheel feels appropriately premium.

The materials have taken a noticeable step forward. There’s a choice of new upholstery colors and trim inserts, including open-pore wood and aluminum. A fresh ambient lighting scheme ties it all together. Mercedes also added small usability improvements — better seat ergonomics, new USB-C ports, and a wireless charging pad repositioned for easier access.

A Subtle Shift in Power and Purpose

Under the hood, the CLA 250 Plus pairs its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The numbers stay familiar — 224 hp and 350 Nm of torque — but the added electric boost smooths out low-speed acceleration and saves fuel in urban traffic. Power is routed through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission to either front- or 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Mercedes says the setup trims emissions while keeping performance identical to before, which feels about right for a car like this — the balance between daily use and understated sportiness.

Refined, Not Reinvented

Rivals like the Audi A3 Sedan and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé have become sharper and more digital, but the CLA still has something neither quite matches: emotional design. Even a decade after its debut, it still feels like a small luxury car that was drawn, not assembled.

The 20256 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 Plus C118 may not rewrite its own playbook, but it doesn’t need to. It’s a refinement, not a reinvention — proof that good proportions, small details, and a steady hand can still keep a familiar shape feeling fresh.
