An Art-Driven Interpretation of the 750S
The 2026 McLaren 750S Project Chromology arrives as one of MSO’s most conceptually focused collaborations, unveiled during Miami Art Week — an environment well suited to a project anchored in colour psychology and material experimentation. The car itself retains the familiar proportions of the 750S, but the surfaces feel transformed. The resin artworks that served as the inspiration for the partnership are echoed by the shifting tones of light that dance over the layered paint, giving the impression of movement even while at rest
According to McLaren, the finish is an expression of Nat Bowen's chromology technique, in which the artwork is shaped by depth, translucency, and emotional resonance.
Applied across the sculpted bodywork of the 750S, the layered technique seems to emphasize the car’s curvature, particularly along the front fenders and rear haunches.
A New Multi-Layered Finish from MSO
At the centre of the project is MSO’s newly developed Chromatic Layered Finish, created specifically for this partnership. The technique builds colour through multiple translucent coats, using light to reveal tonal shifts within the finish. Unlike traditional MSO paintwork, this method introduces a subtle raised texture — the first time MSO has added a tactile dimension to the paint surface.
The result is a finish that can be both seen and felt, giving the 750S an added material richness. McLaren frames this as a new “surface language,” one that expands what bespoke paintwork can express.
Each commission will feature its own palette, constructed to reflect an emotional theme drawn from Bowen’s chromatic studies. These range from calm, contemplative tones to more energizing, vivid expressions.
Key Features and Artistic Integration
The Project Chromology cars introduce another MSO first: 24-carat, hallmarked gold-plated badging, applied to the front, sides, and rear of the vehicle. Each badge is backed with a colour matched precisely to the dominant tone of its specific palette, extending the visual identity beyond the paint itself.
Every commission also comes with an original artwork by Bowen, allowing owners to carry the chromatic story beyond the car. This parallel artwork emphasizes the project’s position at the intersection of automotive design and contemporary art.
While the 750S’s mechanical package remains unchanged in the release [Unverified], the collaboration underscores MSO’s ability to use art-driven concepts to reframe the supercar’s identity.
