Lexus Pushes the ES Further Upmarket
The 2026 Lexus ES 350e Luxury Executive arrives as more than just another update for the long-running sedan line. It represents the first time the ES has been developed as a fully electric vehicle, while also moving noticeably closer to traditional flagship luxury territory in size, cabin execution, and overall refinement.
Lexus says the design direction was inspired by the LF-ZC concept shown at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. That influence is immediately visible. The new ES keeps sedan proportions but softens the traditional three-box profile with a flowing roofline and tapered rear section that almost gives the car a fastback appearance from certain angles.
Cleaner Surfacing Changes the ES Character
The exterior follows Lexus’ “Clean Tech x Elegance” philosophy, combining smooth surfacing with aerodynamic detailing intended to support efficiency and cabin quietness. The spindle grille theme remains, though it has evolved into what Lexus now calls a “spindle body,” extending from the bonnet through the front fascia rather than relying on a large open grille design.
Viewed from the side, the sedan appears substantially longer and lower than the previous ES despite the actual increase in height. Black side mouldings visually reduce the body mass, while sculpted rear shoulders add some tension to an otherwise clean design. The rear lighting arrangement is particularly striking, using a full-width light bar and separate L-shaped lamp graphics positioned low in the bumper corners.
Dimensionally, the ES has grown across the board. Overall length now reaches 5,140 mm, while the wheelbase increases by 80 mm to 2,950 mm. That extra footprint appears to have been used primarily to improve passenger space rather than create a more aggressive stance.
Interior Focuses on Space and Calmness
Inside, the 2026 Lexus ES 350e Luxury Executive adopts a much cleaner dashboard layout than previous generations. Physical controls have largely been hidden beneath illuminated touch-sensitive panels Lexus refers to as “Hidden Switches.”
The cabin itself looks heavily influenced by lounge-style luxury. Rear passengers benefit from significantly improved legroom, while higher specifications introduce reclining seats, ventilation, massage functionality, and ottoman-style leg supports. Lexus claims a class-leading front-to-rear seating distance of 1,102 mm.
A new 14-inch multimedia system becomes central to the dashboard. Lexus says the latest LexusConnect platform delivers processing speeds four times faster than before, alongside expanded connected services and navigation integration.
Electric Powertrain Prioritises Refinement
The ES 350e uses a front-wheel-drive electric setup producing 224 hp (165 kW). Lexus estimates a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 8.0 seconds, while claimed WLTP driving range varies between 493 and 581 km depending on specification.
Power comes from a new lithium-ion battery mounted beneath the cabin floor. Lexus says the placement helps preserve cabin and cargo space while lowering the centre of gravity. Fast charging from 10 to 80 percent can reportedly be completed in around 30 minutes using a 150 kW DC charger.
Underneath, the ES adopts a revised GA-K platform with additional structural reinforcement and, for the first time on an ES, a multi-link rear suspension setup. Lexus appears to have focused heavily on ride composure, noise suppression, and long-distance comfort rather than outright sporting character.
The new electric ES now enters a segment crowded with premium EV sedans from German rivals and newer Chinese entrants. Lexus seems determined to stand apart by leaning harder into refinement, quietness, and rear-seat comfort instead of chasing outright performance figures.
