2026 Kia EV9 GT European Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Dual-motor AWD producing 508 horsepower.

  • 0–100 km/h in 4.6 seconds with over 450 km range.

  • New suspension tech with Road Preview System and ECS.

Same EV9 underneath, but the intent shifts

The 2026 Kia EV9 GT European Version doesn’t move away from what the EV9 already is.

It’s still a large, three-row electric SUV. Still built to carry people and cover distance comfortably. What Kia has done here is push the other side of the equation — performance — without undoing the practicality that makes the standard car work in the first place.

That tension between the two is where this version sits.

Exterior changes are there, but you have to look for them

At a glance, it doesn’t shout.

The overall shape is unchanged, and that’s probably intentional. The EV9 already has a strong identity, so the GT version works through smaller details rather than a full redesign.

The digital lighting grille introduces new “Energetic” patterns, which are more noticeable in low light than in daylight.

The wheels are specific to this version — 21 inches, with a slightly more intricate design. Behind them, the neon green brake calipers stand out immediately. They’re large, clearly visible, and carry GT lettering.

That’s probably the most obvious cue.

Proportions stay the same, stance feels a bit more settled

Nothing about the size changes.

It’s still a big SUV, with a tall driving position and a long wheelbase. But the way it sits on the road feels slightly different.

Part of that comes from the suspension. Part of it is visual — the wheels, the tyres, the detailing. It gives the car a more planted look, even if the numbers haven’t changed.

Interior keeps the space, adds a different tone

Inside, the layout is exactly what you’d expect.

Three rows, space for up to seven, and a cabin that’s built around usability. The difference is in the details.

The GT version uses a darker palette — Dark Gray and Black — with suede inserts and neon green accents running through the seats and steering wheel.

The front seats are shaped more like sport seats, trimmed in Alcantara and embossed with the GT logo. There’s also a dedicated GT button on the steering wheel, which brings everything into its most aggressive setting.

The triple display setup remains in place, along with ambient lighting that’s been tuned specifically for this version.

It still feels like a family SUV. Just one that’s been given a slightly sharper edge.

Powertrain is where the real change sits

This is the part that shifts the character.

The EV9 GT uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 508 horsepower. That’s enough to push it from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, which is quick given the size and weight involved.

There’s more going on underneath as well. The Electronically Controlled Suspension works alongside a Road Preview System, using sensors and a front camera to read the road ahead and adjust damping before the car reaches it.

An electronic limited-slip differential helps manage torque across the wheels, especially through corners.

There’s also Virtual Gear Shift and Active Sound Design. The paddles behind the wheel simulate gear changes, while the sound system mirrors that experience inside the cabin. It’s not necessary, but it adds another layer to how the car feels.

Charging and usability stay in place

Despite the performance focus, the practical side hasn’t been pushed aside.

The EV9 GT uses a 99.8 kWh battery with an 800V system, allowing a 10 to 80 percent charge in around 24 minutes under the right conditions.

Range is quoted at over 450 km, although real-world figures will depend on use.

It also keeps features like Vehicle-to-Load and a towing capacity of up to 2,500 kg, which means it can still handle more demanding tasks.

A different take on what a large EV can be

The 2026 Kia EV9 GT European Version sits at the top of the lineup.

It doesn’t replace the standard EV9, and it doesn’t try to. It just adds another layer — one that leans more toward performance while keeping everything else intact.

That’s a difficult balance.

But this feels like Kia trying to hold both sides at once.
