Design and Proportions of the Vehicle
The EV5 GT-Line S sits squarely in Kia’s current EV design language, but with proportions that feel more upright and practical than the EV6. At 4,610mm long with a 2,750mm wheelbase, it presents as a compact-mid SUV rather than a crossover. The stance is broad without appearing aggressive, helped by 19-inch GT-Line alloy wheels and black exterior detailing that visually lowers the body.
Flush door handles, gloss black wheel arch cladding, and a contrasting roof spoiler reinforce the EV5’s clean, geometric look. In Iceberg Green, the surfaces read flat and architectural rather than sculpted, with sharp lighting signatures front and rear doing most of the visual work. It looks intentionally squared-off, which aligns with its practical brief rather than chasing coupe-like proportions.
Performance and Powertrain Overview
Power comes from a single permanent magnet synchronous motor driving the front wheels, producing 214 bhp and 295 Nm of torque. Performance figures are modest but appropriate: 0–62 mph in 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 102 mph. This is not positioned as a performance-led EV, and Kia makes no attempt to suggest otherwise.
The 81.4kWh lithium-ion polymer battery sits under the floor, contributing to a kerb weight of just over 2,090kg. WLTP combined range is rated at 313 miles, with a city figure stretching to 448 miles under test conditions. Charging peaks at 127kW on DC, allowing a 10–80 percent charge in around 30 minutes when conditions are optimal. AC charging at 11kW takes just over seven hours from 10–100 percent
Key Features and Interior Impression
Inside, the Kia EV5 GT-Line S specification is comprehensive. Twin 12.3-inch displays dominate the dashboard, joined by a separate 5.3-inch climate control screen. The layout is horizontal and uncluttered, with physical controls retained where they matter. Two-tone artificial leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats underline the trim’s premium positioning.
Practicality is a clear focus. Rear luggage capacity stands at 566 litres, expanding to 1,650 litres with the seats folded, while a 44-litre front trunk adds useful storage. Features such as Vehicle-to-Load capability, a powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof, and Harman Kardon audio system are all standard on GT-Line S.
Market Positioning and Segment Context
Priced at £47,145 on the road in the UK, the EV5 GT-Line S lands in a crowded electric SUV segment. Its approach is conservative but well-judged: strong range figures, high standard equipment, and a long warranty package rather than headline performance. With a 1,200kg braked towing capacity and a full suite of driver assistance systems, it leans toward family and fleet buyers seeking a straightforward, well-specified EV rather than an overtly sporty alternative.
