2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Australian Version
By Lorenzo Bianchi July 15, 2025
Hyundai Ioniq 9 brings three-row EV luxury to Australian roads.
Dual motors, 110.3 kWh battery, and 600 km range headline the performance.
Interior tech, ride comfort, and Digital Key 2.0 show Hyundai means business.
A Flagship EV That Doesn’t Try Too Hard
The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Australian Version doesn’t scream for attention—but it doesn’t need to. It’s big, it’s sharp, and it’s probably the most confident-looking Hyundai SUV to date. Designed with what the company calls an “Aerosthetic” approach, the Ioniq 9 blends low drag with upright stance—parametric pixel lights up front, sculpted D-pillars, and 21-inch machined alloys tucked under big arches.
Up close, you notice the flush surfaces, the subtle aero tricks, and a clean rear design that echoes boat-tail cues. It’s more monolithic than muscular, but in a good way—like a rolling tech object with room for seven.
Performance Without Shouting About It
Underneath sits the same E-GMP platform as the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV9—but with more muscle. A 110.3 kWh battery powers dual 157 kW motors, giving a combined 314 kW (421 hp) and 700 Nm. That’s good for 0–100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, and 600 km of WLTP range. Fast-charging? Yep—10 to 80% in just 24 minutes at a 350 kW DC charger.

Chassis-wise, Hyundai’s Australia-specific suspension tuning shows up again here. The 3,130 mm wheelbase brings natural stability, while dual-link MacPherson front and five-link rear setups aim for ride comfort over outright sportiness. There's even self-leveling rear dampers for towing or big hauls.
Lounge-Like Interior That’s Genuinely Spacious
Inside, it's a different world—quiet, wide, minimalist. A pair of 12.3-inch curved displays dominate the dash, floating above a low, horizontal surface with real design restraint. Hyundai calls it the “Ultimate Lounge,” and for once, that’s not marketing fluff. Even third-row passengers get legit headroom and legroom.
Six-seat variants get a sliding console and second-row relaxation chairs, while seven-seat layouts fold nearly flat. Add in a UV-C sanitizing console, ambient lighting, and a proper frunk, and the Ioniq 9 feels less like an SUV and more like a tech lounge with wheels.
Technology and Safety in Full Force
This is the first Hyundai in Australia to feature Digital Key 2.0, allowing lock/unlock/start from your smartphone, even when the battery is flat. The Ioniq 9 also rolls out Google Places integration, OTA software updates, and a robust Hyundai SmartSense suite with 10 airbags and Level 2+ driving aids.
Pricing and Verdict
Starting at $119,750 MLP, the Ioniq 9 Calligraphy AWD isn’t cheap—but it undercuts luxury-branded rivals while offering more tech and real-world usability. Add $2,000 for six seats, and $3,000 for digital mirrors.
In a world of flashy EVs trying to reinvent the wheel, the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Australian Version feels grounded. It’s spacious, refined, and—most importantly—ready for actual family life, not just PR shots.
