2026 Honda Passport Baja Spec Trophy Truck

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2026 Honda Passport Baja Spec Trophy Truck produces more than 1,300 horsepower from a 2.4-litre twin-turbocharged V6 and an 800-volt hybrid system.

  • Developed by Honda Racing Corporation USA and Mason Motorsports, the truck features carbon-fibre bodywork, all-wheel drive and long-travel suspension with dual FOX Racing shocks at each corner.

  • Two-time Baja 1000 winner Bryce Menzies will race the truck, which is scheduled to make its competition debut at the 2027 Baja 500.

Honda Passport Baja Spec Targets Baja 1000 Victory

Honda Racing Corporation USA has revealed the 2026 Honda Passport Baja Spec Trophy Truck, a purpose-built desert racing machine combining hybrid power with a specially developed all-wheel-drive chassis.

Producing more than 1,300 horsepower, the truck is intended to become the first hybrid-powered entry in the SCORE World Desert Championship's top Trophy Truck class.

Developed in Southern California with Mason Motorsports, the project will make its public debut at the 2026 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Carbon Fibre Bodywork and Aerodynamic Design

Although it carries the Honda Passport name and exterior identity, the Baja Spec is built around a dedicated competition platform.

Its carbon-fibre bodywork was developed using computational fluid dynamics to manage airflow at high speeds.

Deep channels behind the front wheels reduce aerodynamic drag, while high-mounted exhaust outlets behind the cockpit incorporate airflow-directing fins.

A cab-tunnelling arrangement channels air towards a rearward-mounted cooler positioned low within the vehicle.

These measures were developed to improve stability, cooling and weight distribution across desert terrain.

Mason Motorsports AWD Chassis and FOX Suspension

Underneath the body sits Mason Motorsports' Gen 2 all-wheel-drive chassis, modified specifically for Honda's hybrid powertrain.

A bespoke rear frame accommodates the mid-mounted engine and electrical components.

The chassis incorporates a centrally positioned 145-gallon carbon-Kevlar safety fuel cell, helping maintain consistent vehicle balance as fuel is consumed.

Long-travel suspension with dual FOX Racing shocks at each corner works alongside Toyo tires.

Competition Cockpit and Electronic Controls

The confirmed technology focuses on competition management, including dual-axle brake-by-wire, adaptive traction control and AI-assisted power deployment.

Proprietary HRC software coordinates the powertrain, chassis and energy systems, allowing calibration changes for different drivers and racing conditions.

Twin Turbo V6 and 800 Volt Hybrid Powertrain

Mounted behind the cab is a 2.4-litre twin-turbocharged V6 derived from the engine used in the Acura ARX-06 racing prototype.

Combined with Honda's bespoke 800-volt hybrid system, output exceeds 1,300 horsepower.

A five-speed Masomatic transmission developed by Mason Motorsports distributes power through a specialised AWD driveline.

The rear system uses dual driveshafts and angled bevel gears, while front portal gear sets help maximise ground clearance.

The hybrid battery uses Formula 1-derived pouch cells enclosed in a lightweight carbon-fibre housing.

SEMA Debut and 2027 Racing Programme

The Passport Baja Spec will be displayed at SEMA from November 3–6, 2026, alongside other HRC competition vehicles.

Bryce Menzies, a two-time Baja 1000 winner, will drive the truck in partnership with Menzies Motorsports.

Its first scheduled competition appearance is the 2027 Baja 500, taking place June 2–6.

Honda's longer-term objective is an overall Baja 1000 victory during the race's 60th-anniversary year.
