The 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport gets a fairly serious chassis overhaul only a year after the fourth generation Passport arrived. Honda has raised the SUV, redesigned much of its suspension and added a few visual cues that make the extra height immediately noticeable.
The updated TrailSport and TrailSport Elite reach U.S. dealerships later in September. Honda says TrailSport versions accounted for more than 80% of Passport sales as of June 2026, which helps explain why the off road focused models are getting attention so early in the generation's life.
Taller Stance Comes With Functional Changes
Ground clearance increases from 8.27 to 9.65 inches, a substantial 1.38 inch lift. The approach and departure angles both move from 23 to 25 degrees, while breakover improves from 20 to 23 degrees.
Honda did not simply fit taller springs. Nearly 70% of the major suspension components were redesigned, including the springs, dampers, control arms, stabilizer bars and knuckles. The front driveshafts and subframe were revised too. In total, 28 suspension and related chassis components are new or reengineered.

Amber Hood Lights Mark the 2027 Model
The exterior changes are concentrated around the tougher details. More pronounced front and rear fender flares sit over the wheels, while the lower front fascia has been resculpted.
A pair of amber LED lights in the hood scoop is the easiest new detail to spot, complementing the existing amber daytime running lights. The optional Blackout Package now adds black front and rear lower fascias to its black Honda badges and 18 inch alloy wheels. Smoke Blue Pearl also joins the palette, replacing Obsidian Blue Pearl.
TrailWatch Becomes Standard
Inside, Honda has made the heated steering wheel standard on TrailSport rather than reserving it for TrailSport Elite. Other major changes to the dashboard, seating materials or infotainment system are not detailed in the supplied release.
More useful off pavement is TrailWatch, which is now standard across all Passport TrailSport trims. The camera system provides front, rear, side and 360 degree views, with tire placement graphics helping the driver judge blind crests, deep ruts and trail edges.
Honda's Trail Experience app adds another layer, displaying information including elevation, pitch, roll, tire angle, throttle position and engine temperature. It can also record video with trail data overlays.
Familiar V6 Meets a More Capable Chassis
Honda confirms that the 2027 Passport continues with a 3.5 liter V6 built in Lincoln, Alabama. Output, torque and transmission specifications are not stated in this release, so those figures remain [Unverified] here.
Honda specifically compares the TrailSport's ground clearance with the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road, Subaru Outback Wilderness and Ford Bronco Sport Badlands Sasquatch. The 2027 update makes that positioning clearer: this is still a daily usable Passport, but its suspension changes are aimed at giving the TrailSport more genuine room to work away from pavement.
