2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty Double Cab

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Built from the ground up with a strengthened frame, heavy-duty driveline components and an 850 mm wading depth.

  • Powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel calibrated to EU6.2 emissions with enhanced cooling for sustained heavy-load use.

  • Arrives with advanced 4WD, locking differentials, upgraded low-range gearset and intelligent payload/towing tech.

Design and Proportions of the Vehicle

The 2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty Double Cab looks familiar in outline, but the stance and detailing quickly reveal how different it is from a standard Ranger. The chassis underneath has been heavily reinforced, the axles and driveshafts are larger, and the overall posture feels more industrial than lifestyle-oriented. In press photos, the truck sits upright with a purposeful rake, visibly tuned for load support rather than aesthetic drama. Eight-stud hubs, thicker wheel bolts and a new heavy-duty rear axle mark it clearly as a work-first platform

Its Double Cab configuration gives the truck a longer, more grounded visual footprint, while still retaining manageable proportions for narrow tracks and remote environments—the very conditions Ford engineers designed it for. Venting, cooling hardware and high-mounted breathers are tucked cleanly throughout the body, giving the Super Duty a slightly more technical look without disturbing the truck’s familiar silhouette.

Performance and Powertrain Overview

At the core is Ford’s proven 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel, tuned to EU6.2 emissions standards and supported by an improved cooling system designed for extended high-load work in heat, mud and steep terrain

Durability-oriented features include the option to delay diesel particulate filter regeneration, allowing operators to trigger the cycle at a safer, more convenient time.

The Super Duty’s off-road hardware is where the biggest engineering leaps appear. A strengthened two-speed transfer case uses larger internal components, and its upgraded low-range gearset draws directly from F-Series Super Duty systems. Front and rear locking differentials come standard across all variants, with the front unit adapted from the Bronco Raptor and reworked for higher load capacity.

Seven selectable drive modes—Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl—tie into an advanced 4WD system operating in 4A to maximise torque distribution on unpredictable terrain

Key Features and Interior Impression

While the release focuses primarily on engineering, the technology suite stands out. Super Duty adds an integrated rear driver-assistance bar to cab-chassis variants, bundling systems like 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, reverse brake assist and cross-traffic alert—equipment not previously available on Ranger cab-chassis models.

SYMBOLIC FEATURES: The SYNC 5 system provides access to trail tools, driveline readouts, pitch/roll information and settings for features such as Trail Control (low-speed off-road cruise control) and Trail Turn Assist, which pivots the truck more tightly by braking the inside rear wheel on loose surfaces.

Payload and towing intelligence are baked in through Onboard Scales and Smart Hitch—systems that estimate load weight and trailer tongue weight directly via sensors. These additions position the Double Cab not just as a mechanical upgrade, but an operationally smarter truck.

No interior design details are described in the release otherwise [Unverified].

Market Positioning and Segment Context

Ford’s intent is clear: a medium-sized truck heavy-duty enough to replace larger, less agile fleet and emergency vehicles. The Super Duty’s reinforced structure, 850 mm water-wading depth and extreme test program—including mud-pack overload tests, autonomous durability cycles and real-world shadowing of active forestry and cattle-station operations—anchor it deeply in utility rather than lifestyle use

The Double Cab variant will follow the initial cab-chassis release schedule, offering fleet buyers and remote-area operators a factory-engineered alternative to upfitted aftermarket conversions. With capability validated against fire-ground prototypes, high-incline farm work and sustained towing dyno cycles, Ford positions the 2026 Ranger Super Duty as the most task-focused Ranger ever produced.
