2025 Ford Ranger PHEV Stormtrak

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV pairs electric driving with full workhorse capability—3.5-tonne towing and up to 697 Nm of torque.

  • Delivers 43 km of EV range and introduces Pro Power Onboard, turning the truck into a mobile worksite or weekend basecamp.

  • Available now in Europe in Stormtrak, Wildtrak, and XLT trims, with production underway.

Familiar Looks, All-New Drivetrain

The 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV doesn’t scream hybrid from the outside—and that’s the point. The tough, square-jawed design carries over. Chunky wheel arches, upright face, wide stance—it’s still every bit the pickup buyers expect. Underneath, though, it’s all-new.

Ford’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost petrol engine is paired with a 75 kW electric motor and an 11.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. The system delivers 281 PS and a whopping 697 Nm of torque, making this the torquiest Ranger ever.

Up to 43 km of Electric-Only Driving

Fully charged, the Ranger PHEV can run for up to 43 km on electric power alone. That’s more than the average daily distance of over half of current Ranger owners, according to Ford. The system is backed by four selectable EV modes—Auto EV, EV Now, EV Later, and EV Charge—so drivers can choose how and when the battery is used.

Charging takes under four hours with a 16A single-phase charger. Business users can save significantly on fuel, with Ford estimating an annual savings of €850 in Germany versus the 3.0L V6 diesel, assuming daily charging and 80 km of daily driving.

Power, Performance, and Worksite Functionality

Despite the hybrid setup, performance hasn’t been compromised. The PHEV version keeps a full 3,500 kg towing capacity and 1-tonne payload rating, thanks to the new Modular Hybrid Transmission and e-4WD system. Off-road torque is enhanced by near-instant electric response and regenerative braking, making the Ranger PHEV more capable in slow, technical terrain.

The Pro Power Onboard feature is a first for Ranger. Customers can spec either a 2.3 kW or 6.9 kW version. The latter includes two 15A outlets in the load box, with enough power to run tools like angle grinders, floodlights, and even a cement mixer—no need for a separate generator on-site or at the trailhead.

Inside the Cabin: Tech and Practicality

Every Ranger PHEV gets a five-seat Double Cab, Ford’s SYNC 4A infotainment system with a 12-inch vertical touchscreen, and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. Wildtrak and Stormtrak models add niceties like heated front seats, 360-degree lighting, and a 10-speaker B&O system.

The chassis has been updated too—revised suspension tuning and new rear frame rails accommodate the battery without affecting bed space. It’ll still fit a Euro pallet between the arches, and there’s an Easy Lift tailgate plus LED cargo lighting as standard.
