2026 Citroen C5 Aircross PHEV

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The plug in hybrid combines a 150 hp 1.6 litre turbo engine and 125 hp electric motor for 195 hp combined.

  • A 21 kWh battery provides 86 km of average electric range and more than 100 km in urban driving.

  • The second generation C5 Aircross grows to 4,652 mm long with a 2,784 mm wheelbase and 565 dm³ boot.

The 2026 Citroen C5 Aircross PHEV arrives as the longer range plug in hybrid option in the second generation C5 Aircross family. It sits between the 145 hp 48V hybrid and fully electric ë C5 Aircross, using the STLA Medium platform to accommodate its battery without reducing passenger or luggage space.

Sharper Shape Has an Aerodynamic Purpose

Citroen has moved away from the rounded appearance of the previous C5 Aircross. The new body uses tauter surfacing, wider tracks and pronounced shoulders. Up front, slender sections form the brand's three point lighting signature, with available Matrix LED headlights connected by a gloss black strip.

The rear is more unusual. A vertical tailgate helps preserve luggage capacity, while Citroen's Light Wings place two outer lighting elements away from the main rear moulding. Those projecting sections also guide airflow around the body.

At 4,652 mm long and 1,902 mm wide, the new SUV is larger than before. Its 2,784 mm wheelbase has grown by 60 mm, with most of that increase going toward rear legroom. Ground clearance remains 200 mm. Wheels measure up to 20 inches and use perforated sections to help cool the brakes.

Waterfall Screen Dominates the Cabin

The interior follows Citroen's C Zen Lounge approach. A long horizontal dashboard uses foam fabric extending into the doors and seats, while ambient lighting offers eight selectable colours. Advanced Comfort front seats can provide electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and five massage programmes depending on specification.

The focal point is the vertically arranged Waterfall touchscreen, described by Citroen as the largest central HD touchscreen yet offered by Stellantis. It combines configurable widgets with permanently accessible vehicle and climate controls. A 10 inch digital instrument cluster is standard across the range.

PHEV Delivers More Than 100 KM in Town

The C5 Aircross Hybrid Rechargeable 195 combines a 150 hp 1.6 litre four cylinder turbo petrol engine with a 92 kW, or 125 hp, electric motor. Combined output is 195 hp, delivered through a seven speed eDCS dual clutch automatic transmission.

Its 21 kWh battery sits beneath the centre of the vehicle. Citroen quotes 86 km of average electric range, 33 percent more than the previous C5 Aircross PHEV, while urban electric range exceeds 100 km. Electric mode works at speeds up to 135 km/h. Hybrid and Sport modes are also provided.

Charging takes 5 hours 15 minutes using the standard 3.7 kW onboard charger with a 7.4 kW wallbox. Choosing the optional 7.4 kW onboard charger cuts that to 2 hours 55 minutes. A larger 55 litre fuel tank contributes to a quoted 650 km motorway range.

More Rear Space Without Losing the Boot

Rear knee room increases by 51 mm and headroom by 68 mm compared with the previous generation. Crucially for the PHEV, luggage capacity remains identical to the other powertrains: 565 dm³ with the rear seats up and 1,668 dm³ when folded.

That makes the plug in hybrid the middle ground in a C5 Aircross range spanning 48V hybrid, PHEV and full electric power. Developed in France and assembled at Citroen's Rennes plant, the second generation model was scheduled for European sales from the second half of 2025.
