2026 Changan Auto UNI-S CT
By Lorenzo Bianchi June 12, 2026
Three UNI-S grades offer increasing levels of technology and safety.
Every model uses a 138kW turbocharged 1.5-litre engine.
Higher trims add adaptive cruise control and advanced ADAS features.
The 2026 Changan UNI-S CT lands in South Africa at a time when the midsize SUV segment is becoming increasingly crowded. Buyers have more choice than ever, which makes standing out a challenge. Changan's answer is not to reinvent the formula, but to offer a broad spread of technology and equipment across three clearly separated grades.
The UNI-S arrives as the brand continues to grow its presence locally. Whether buyers choose the CS, CL or CE, the fundamentals remain the same. Every version measures 4.5 metres long, offers 475 litres of luggage space and uses the same turbocharged powertrain. What changes is how much technology and convenience comes with it.
A Design Focused On Presence
Seen from the front, the UNI-S carries a modern SUV look without relying on excessive detailing. LED lighting is standard throughout the range, while the wheel designs become progressively larger as buyers move through the lineup.
The flagship CE sits on 19-inch alloy wheels, compared with the 18-inch setup fitted to lower grades. It's a small difference on paper, though it gives the range-topper a noticeably different stance.
There's also a practical side to the design. Changan says every UNI-S offers the same 475-litre cargo area, ensuring that buyers don't sacrifice usefulness regardless of specification.
Cabin Technology Varies Across The Range
Inside, the UNI-S CT places a strong emphasis on digital technology. Even the base model receives a 12.8-inch infotainment display alongside a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are integrated through Changan's AI Elf voice assistant system, creating a connected experience from the start of the lineup.
Higher grades introduce additional comfort features. Microfibre leather upholstery, power seat adjustment, rain-sensing wipers, and heated folding mirrors appear as buyers move through the range. At the top end, the cabin gains an electric panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate, upgraded audio system, and memory functions for the driver's seat.
Turbocharged Power Across Every Model
Unlike some rivals that reserve stronger engines for premium grades, Changan uses the same drivetrain throughout the UNI-S lineup.
Power comes from the company's Blue Whale 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, producing 138kW and 300Nm. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Changan also fits every UNI-S with a multi-link independent rear suspension, a feature intended to support ride comfort and vehicle control during everyday driving.
Safety Technology Expands With Each Grade
Safety equipment increases significantly as buyers move up the range.
The entry model includes electronic stability systems, traction control, hill start assistance, hill descent control, multiple airbags, rear parking sensors, and a 540-degree panoramic camera system.
The mid-level grade adds Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Lane Keeping Assist.
At the top of the range, additional technologies such as Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Rear Collision Warning, and automatic parking assist complete the package.
With three clearly defined grades and a consistent mechanical foundation, the 2026 Changan UNI-S CT offers buyers a choice of technology and convenience features without changing the vehicle's core character.
