A Mulliner Commission Defined by Collaboration

Bentley has completed Batur Convertible #4, the most extensively curated example of its limited coachbuilt open-top grand tourer so far, developed through an unusually close co-creation process between the client and Bentley’s Mulliner division.

Known internally as “The Power of Four,” this car is positioned less as a specification exercise and more as a demonstration of how far bespoke craftsmanship can be pushed when the brief is personal and uncompromising.

The owner, an experienced Mulliner client with multiple continuation Bentleys and a Bacalar in her collection, approached the project with a clear design philosophy: cohesion across colours, materials, and finishes, rather than visual excess.

Exterior Design and Bespoke Finishes

Batur Convertible #4 is the first to feature a tri-tone exterior using the client’s own commissioned colours. A 6 mm gloss silver fine line runs the length of the body, visually emphasising the Batur’s signature “endless bonnet” proportion. The upper body colour, known as Breslow Blue, is colour-matched to the roof canvas, marking the first bespoke roof colour ever applied to a Bentley convertible.

When the roof is stowed, the same colour continues across the Airbridge, reinforcing a sense of continuity rather than contrast. Additional exterior detailing includes a Midnight Breslow Blue bonnet pinstripe, colour-matched accents on the wheels and wing mirrors, polished titanium exhaust finishers, and bright silver grilles, all chosen to maintain visual restraint while showcasing precision.

Personal Detail and Interior Craft

Warmth and texture take center stage inside. The cabin combines light blue accents that directly allude to the exterior Breslow Blue with autumnal tones, such as caramel and tan hues. A purposeful visual rhythm is created by the contrast stitching that extends from the tonneau through the instrument panel, headrests, and seats.

One of the most personal features appears upon entry. The animated welcome lamp projects the owner’s handwritten name, formed by 415,800 microscopic mirrors, shaping the light with extreme precision. Subtle references continue underfoot, where the outline of the Batur “volcano” motif is woven into the deep-pile floor mats.

Material craftsmanship extends to the fascia, finished in bright aluminium with an engine spin effect inspired by early Bentleys. The rotating display features bespoke gauge faces, colour-matched to the satin blue Bentley clock.

Despite its focus on luxury and curation, Batur Convertible #4 retains the most powerful version of Bentley’s iconic W12 engine. The hand-assembled 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged unit produces 740 bhp, ensuring the car remains a true grand tourer rather than a static showpiece
