2025 Smart No.5 Summit European Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The Smart No.5 Summit expands the brand into the premium mid-size electric SUV segment with a clear outdoor emphasis.

  • An 800-volt architecture enables fast charging and long-range capability by current standards.

  • The Summit specification adds functional hardware that shifts Smart’s image beyond urban mobility.

Astute Moves Outside of the City

During the brand's worldwide debut in Byron Bay, Australia, the 2025 Smart No.5 Summit was announced, signifying a significant expansion of Smart's electric range. The No. 5, the third model in the lineup, positions itself above the No. 1 and No. 3 in terms of size, presence, and intended usage as it joins the luxury mid-size SUV market.

The Summit variant sits at the top of the range, framed as the most adventure-oriented interpretation of Smart’s new design direction.

Exterior Form and Summit Hardware

Designed by Mercedes-Benz, the No.5 Summit carries proportions that signal a more serious footprint than previous Smart products. Short overhangs, a squared stance, and upright surfaces give it visual weight, while details such as the panoramic halo roof and frameless doors maintain a premium, contemporary edge. The Summit Edition distinguishes itself with the Adventurers’ Collection, adding elements such as a roof-mounted light bar, an electric trailer hitch, and underbody protection. These features subtly shift the vehicle’s character toward light off-road and outdoor use without exaggeration.

Digital Focus and Interior Design

The interior of the No. 5 Summit upholds Smart's emphasis on comfort and technology. The mood is created with "zero-gravity" front leather chairs, spacious back seats, and ambient lighting. A 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display, a 10.3-inch instrument cluster, and two 13-inch AMOLED panels serve as the focal points of the dashboard's expansive digital layout.

Smart’s generative AI voice assistant and animated avatars handle infotainment and vehicle functions, powered by an AMD V2000 processor designed for responsive interaction.

Electric Platform and Driving Scope

The No.5 Summit is built on an 800-volt electrical platform, a specification increasingly expected in the premium EV space. Its 100 kWh battery supports rapid charging, with Smart quoting a 10 to 80 percent charge in approximately 15 minutes under optimal conditions, and a driving range of over 740 km on the CLTC cycle. The Summit's reputation as the most adaptable No. 5 version is reinforced by its multiple driving modes, which include Sand, Snow, Mud, and Rock, suggesting a broader working envelope.

Putting Yourself in a Congested Market

With the No.5 Summit, Smart hopes to go beyond its conventional city-focused competitors and into the market for small and mid-size electric SUVs with aspirations for a lifestyle.
