2025 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Sonderwunsch 982

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Sonderwunsch program enables deep customization beyond Porsche’s standard configurator.

  • This GT4 RS combines Birch Green paint with contrasting blue exterior and interior accents.

  • Over $50,000 in bespoke options highlight the reach and risks of full personalization.

A Track Focused Shape Taken in a New Direction

The 2025 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS remains, at its core, one of the most focused mid-engine performance cars Porsche currently builds. The wide stance, fixed rear wing, and extensive aero work are unchanged here, delivering the same visual cues that separate the GT4 RS from lesser 718 variants. From the press imagery, proportions remain tightly drawn and functional, with short overhangs and an aggressively planted posture.

What alters the first impression is color. This particular example, configured through Porsche’s Sonderwunsch program, is finished primarily in Birch Green. On its own, the shade suits the GT4 RS’s extroverted nature. The controversy comes from the contrasting blue accents applied across wheels, mirror caps, rear wing endplates, hood ducts, and even rear badging. The result is visually loud, intentionally so, and difficult to ignore.

Sonderwunsch Freedom Without Guardrails

Porsche’s Sonderwunsch, or Special Wishes, division exists to give customers near-total freedom over materials, finishes, and colors. In this case, that freedom has been exercised without restraint. The exterior’s green-and-blue contrast carries directly into the cabin, where blue leather appears on seat bolsters, headrests, door panels, and the lower dashboard.

Green-painted trim elements run across the dash, center tunnel, door cards, and even into the seat structure itself. Fabric inserts, black leather sections, and blue contrast stitching complete an interior that feels closer to a one-off art piece than a factory sports car. Whether harmonious or excessive is subjective, but the execution clearly reflects a customer intent on standing apart.

Performance Hardware Remains Untouched

Importantly, none of this customization alters the mechanical specification. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS remains powered by its naturally aspirated flat-six, positioned just behind the cabin and tuned for high-revving response. Suspension, braking, and aerodynamic components appear unchanged from the standard GT4 RS specification, preserving the car’s reputation for balance and track capability [Inference].

This is a visual and material exercise rather than a performance experiment. The Sonderwunsch treatment sits on top of an already extreme platform, rather than attempting to redefine it.

Market Context and Reception

The car was reportedly listed by Porsche Bellevue in Washington before being removed shortly afterward, suggesting it did not linger on the market

More than $50,000 in Sonderwunsch options were applied, a figure that underscores both the program’s exclusivity and its financial reach.

In a broader market increasingly shaped by electrification and software-led differentiation, projects like this highlight a parallel trend. Ultra-wealthy buyers are using bespoke customization as a form of expression, even if the results polarize opinion [Inference].

Positioning Beyond Taste

The 2025 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Sonderwunsch ultimately proves a simple point. Porsche will build almost anything a customer is willing to sign off on. Whether that translates to lasting appeal is another matter entirely. The mechanical excellence remains unquestioned. The aesthetic legacy is far less certain.
