2025 BYD Seal 06 DM-i UK Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Super Hybrid DM-i technology delivers EV-like driving with long-distance flexibility.

  • Up to 65 miles of pure-electric range and a combined range exceeding 900 miles.

  • Seal 06 DM-i launches as a family-sized saloon with generous cabin space and strong standard equipment.

Ocean-inspired design with measured confidence

The 2025 BYD Seal 06 DM-i does not chase attention through excess. Its design follows BYD’s ocean-inspired theme, blending smooth, flowing surfaces with sharper detailing where it matters. At the front, a clean, minimalist grille integrates an active air-intake system, helping both cooling and aerodynamic efficiency. The inverted trapezoidal lower grille adds a subtle sense of dynamism without tipping into aggression.

Crystal-inspired full-LED headlights complete the front signature, catching light in a way that feels technical rather than decorative. Along the sides, sculpted dual waistlines give the saloon a sleek, agile profile, supported by 18-inch “flying axe” alloy wheels that hint at performance even at rest. At the rear, smoked LED matrix tail-lights introduce layered lighting sequences designed to create a flowing visual motion.

Proportions aimed squarely at family use

At 4,840mm long with a 2,790mm wheelbase, the Seal 06 DM-i sits firmly in the family saloon category. That wheelbase is longer than many C-segment rivals, and the benefit is immediately clear inside. BYD describes comfortable space for five adults, supported by strong rear legroom and headroom.

Boot capacity stands at 491 litres, expanding to 1,370 litres when the 40:60 split rear seats are folded. These are not headline-chasing numbers, but they place the Seal 06 DM-i solidly among the more practical electrified saloons currently offered in Europe.

Super Hybrid technology focused on real driving

The heart of the Seal 06 DM-i is BYD’s Super Hybrid with DM (Dual Mode) technology. It combines a 1.5-litre Xiaoyun petrol engine with electric motors and a Blade Battery, allowing the car to operate predominantly like an EV in everyday use.

In EV mode, the wheels are driven solely by the electric motor. In HEV mode, the system still prioritises electric drive, with the petrol engine mainly generating electricity unless additional power is required. With the larger battery option, the Seal 06 DM-i can travel up to 65 miles on electricity alone, while the combined range on a full charge and full tank exceeds 900 miles. Weighted combined fuel consumption reaches up to 188.3 mpg, underlining the system’s efficiency.

Performance remains measured and appropriate. All versions reach 62 mph in under nine seconds and top out at 111 mph, reinforcing the Seal 06 DM-i’s role as a refined long-distance car rather than a sporting statement. Vehicle-to-Load capability is standard, allowing external devices to be powered at up to 3.3kW.

An adequate substitute in a changing market

LED lighting, powered front seats, digital instrumentation, a sizable central touchscreen, numerous USB-C ports, and an extensive array of safety and driver-assistance systems are just a few of the many features that come standard on the Seal 06 DM-i.UK pricing starts at £33,990 for the saloon, with deliveries scheduled before the end of 2025.

For BYD, the 2025 Seal 06 DM-i is positioned as a bridge between full EVs and conventional combustion cars. It offers electric driving where it counts most, without asking buyers to compromise on range, space, or familiarity. In a market still negotiating that balance, the Seal 06 DM-i arrives with quiet confidence rather than grand claims.
