Estate proportions with a restrained design approach
The 2025 BYD Seal 6 DM-i Touring arrives without drama, and that restraint feels deliberate. The Touring shares its core proportions with the Seal 6 DM-i Saloon, measuring 4,840mm long with a 2,790mm wheelbase, but stretches upward slightly to accommodate a longer roofline and expanded cargo area. The result is a silhouette that reads practical first, elegant second.
Up front, the design follows BYD’s ocean-inspired theme. Flowing surfaces are offset by sharper detailing in the lower bumper, contributing to aerodynamic efficiency rather than visual aggression. Crystal-inspired full-LED headlights and an active air-intake system form a clean, technical face. Along the sides, dual waistlines and 18-inch “flying axe” alloy wheels introduce a sense of motion without disrupting the car’s calm stance.
At the rear, smoked LED matrix tail-lights create a layered lighting signature, while the Touring’s roofline integrates aluminium roof rails and a powered tailgate. A drag coefficient of just 0.280 is notably low for an estate, underlining the functional focus behind the styling.
Interior space designed for real use
Inside, the Seal 6 DM-i Touring leans into comfort and practicality rather than novelty. The cabin seats five adults with generous legroom, supported by a long wheelbase that outstretches many C-segment rivals. Materials follow BYD’s established approach, combining soft-touch surfaces with durable finishes intended for daily use.
The boot is the Touring’s defining feature. Cargo capacity stands at 500 litres with the rear seats up, rising to 1,535 litres when the 40:60 split seats are folded. The wide tailgate opening and powered operation make the space easy to access, reinforcing the Touring’s role as a family and lifestyle vehicle rather than a design exercise.
Technology is neatly integrated. Depending on trim, the dashboard features either a 12.8-inch or 15.6-inch central infotainment display, supported by multiple USB-C ports front and rear and available wireless smartphone charging. Ventilated, heated, power-adjustable front seats and textured vegan leather upholstery reinforce the car’s long-distance comfort brief.
Super Hybrid performance with EV character
At the core of the Seal 6 DM-i Touring is BYD’s Super Hybrid with DM technology. The system combines a 1.5-litre Xiaoyun petrol engine with electric motors and a Blade Battery, operating predominantly in EV-like modes during everyday driving. In Comfort specification, the Touring delivers up to 62 miles of pure electric range, with a combined WLTP range of up to 839 miles on a full charge and tank.
Acceleration from 0–62 mph takes under nine seconds, with a top speed of 111 mph. The emphasis is on smooth, responsive progress rather than outright performance. Vehicle-to-Load capability, standard across the range, allows external devices to be powered at up to 3.3kW, extending the Touring’s usefulness beyond the road.
Positioning within the European market
Priced from £34,990 in the UK, the Seal 6 DM-i Touring positions itself between traditional hybrids and full EVs, offering electric driving for daily use without range anxiety. It follows the Seal U DM-i SUV as BYD’s second Super Hybrid model in Europe, but introduces a new body style aimed squarely at families and fleets.
For BYD, the Touring is less about expanding a niche and more about broadening appeal. It delivers space, efficiency, and predictability in equal measure, suggesting BYD’s European strategy is now moving from attention-grabbing entries to long-term market coverage.
