2025 BYD ATTO 2 UK Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Super Hybrid DM-i system delivers up to 620 miles combined range.

  • Up to 55 miles of electric-only driving for daily commutes.

  • Practical cabin with AI voice assistant and flexible storage.

Compact SUV design with a more expressive edge

The 2025 BYD ATTO 2 DM-i doesn’t try to reinvent the compact SUV shape. It works within it, then adds its own character through detail.

At 4,330 mm in length, with a relatively long 2,620 mm wheelbase, the proportions feel settled. There’s enough width and height to give it presence, but it never feels oversized. The short overhangs help reinforce that SUV stance without exaggeration.

Up front, the lighting does most of the work. Slim daytime running lights sit cleanly above the main LED units, while the bumper carries sharper lines and vertical air curtains that hint at function as much as design.

From the side, the floating roofline and curved surfacing add a bit of movement. It’s not dramatic, but it stops the car from feeling flat. Around the back, the full-width light bar and those “Chinese knot” tail-lights give it a signature that’s easy to recognise, especially at night.

Proportions shaped around space, not style

The wheelbase tells its own story. It’s been stretched just enough to prioritise cabin space, and that comes through once inside.

The stance remains upright, which helps with visibility and ease of use in tight environments. It’s the kind of SUV that feels comfortable in city traffic but doesn’t feel out of place on longer runs either.

There’s no attempt to make it look sportier than it is. It leans toward practicality, and that feels deliberate.

Interior balances simplicity with new tech

Inside, the layout is clean and easy to understand. There’s a digital instrument panel measuring 8.8 inches, paired with a 12.8-inch touchscreen that handles most functions.

The interface leans into voice control more than before. Activated by “Hi BYD”, the system responds in a more conversational way and can handle multiple requests without needing to start over each time. It’s a subtle shift, but noticeable in everyday use.

Physical buttons are still present for key controls, which helps avoid the frustration that comes with fully screen-based systems.

The cabin itself feels open. A flat floor and wide layout make the rear seats usable for regular passengers, while the boot starts at 425 litres and expands when needed.

Hybrid system focuses on how the car feels to drive

The ATTO 2 DM-i’s main story sits under the surface.

Its Super Hybrid system combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with electric motors and a Blade Battery, but what matters more is how it behaves. Most of the time, it drives like an EV. Smooth, quiet, and immediate in response.

There are two battery setups. The larger one delivers up to 55 miles of electric driving, enough for typical daily use without using petrol. When both systems work together, total range stretches to around 620 miles.

Performance is respectable rather than aggressive, with the quicker version reaching 0–62 mph in about 7.5 seconds. It’s more than enough for what the car is designed to do.

Everyday usability remains the priority

The ATTO 2 DM-i doesn’t lose sight of practicality.

Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, and multiple charging points for devices. Higher trims add a few comfort-focused touches like a panoramic roof, heated seats, and a 360-degree camera.

There’s also Vehicle-to-Load capability, allowing the car to power external devices. It’s a small feature, but one that adds flexibility in real-world use.

Positioned as a bridge between hybrid and electric

The 2025 BYD ATTO 2 DM-i doesn’t try to replace fully electric models. It sits alongside them.

For buyers who aren’t ready to rely entirely on charging networks, this offers a middle ground. It behaves like an EV in daily driving but keeps the reassurance of a petrol backup.

That balance is where it finds its place. Not as a statement, but as a practical step forward.
