2025 BYD ATTO 2 Australian Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Compact electric SUV positioned below ATTO 3, aimed at urban buyers and first-time EV owners.

  • Single-motor, front-wheel-drive setup with a 51.13kWh Blade battery confirmed.

  • Australian launch targeted for Q4, with pricing and final specs still to come.

Positioning within BYD’s expanding EV range

BYD has confirmed the arrival of its newest small electric SUV for Australia, referred to locally as the 2025 BYD ATTO 1. In terms of size and purpose, the model is smaller than the ATTO 3 and focuses more on everyday usability and affordability than on performance. The car is scheduled to launch in Australia in Q4, strengthening BYD's push into high-volume markets and expanding its local EV portfolio.

[Inference] Internationally, the vehicle is known as the Atto 2, with “ATTO 1” appearing to be a market-specific naming decision for Australia. BYD Australia has not yet clarified final badging.

Exterior design and proportions

Visually, the ATTO 1 follows BYD’s current design language, overseen by Wolfgang Egger. The proportions are compact but deliberate, with short overhangs, a high-set beltline, and smooth surfacing that avoids unnecessary creases. LED lighting front and rear is standard, with a full-width rear light bar and integrated spoiler giving the tail a planted stance.

Flush door handles and a floating roofline contribute to aerodynamic cleanliness rather than visual drama. A panoramic sunroof is confirmed, reinforcing the car’s urban-focused, lifestyle-oriented brief.

Electric powertrain and platform fundamentals

Under the skin, the ATTO 1 is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 architecture, using Cell-to-Body construction to improve rigidity by 32 percent. Power comes from a 51.13kWh Blade battery paired with a single permanent-magnet synchronous motor driving the front wheels.

Output is confirmed at 130kW and 290Nm, channelled through BYD’s integrated 8-in-1 powertrain system. Suspension is MacPherson strut up front with a torsion beam rear, tuned for ride comfort rather than aggressive handling.

Cabin layout and onboard technology

Inside, the ATTO 1 adopts a clean, tech-forward layout consistent with BYD’s recent models. An 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster is standard, paired with BYD’s rotating central touchscreen—10.1 inches in Essential trim and 12.8 inches in Premium.

Synthetic leather seating, a multifunction steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rear mirror are included. Safety coverage is comprehensive, with six airbags, ADAS, and either a reversing camera or 360-degree surround view depending on specification. Vehicle-to-Load functionality and NFC digital key access are also confirmed.
