The 2022 Nissan Patrol Ti-L Y62 arrived long after the Patrol had already established itself as one of Australia's best-known four-wheel drives. By the time this generation reached local buyers, expectations had changed. Drivers still wanted genuine off-road capability, but comfort, refinement and technology had become just as important.
That shift is exactly where the Y62 found its place. Introduced locally in 2013, it moved the Patrol firmly into the modern large SUV segment while retaining the capability that had defined the nameplate for decades. Today, as Nissan prepares to replace it with the next-generation Y63, the Ti-L represents the final years of Australia's V8-powered Patrol story.
A More Refined Patrol
Compared with earlier Patrol generations, the Y62 adopted a noticeably more premium approach.
Its exterior retained the upright proportions expected of a full-size SUV, but softer body surfacing, a large chrome grille and sculpted lighting gave it a more contemporary appearance. The overall design placed just as much emphasis on highway touring as off-road exploration, reflecting how many owners were using the vehicle.
Despite the more polished styling, it remained unmistakably a Patrol, with generous ground clearance and the substantial proportions expected from Nissan's flagship SUV.
Built For Long Journeys
Inside, the Ti-L focused on comfort rather than complexity.
The cabin offered generous space, modern technology and the long-distance refinement that became one of the defining characteristics of the Y62 generation. Large windows and an elevated seating position helped create an airy driving environment, while the layout reflected Nissan's move toward a more premium full-size SUV experience.
Rather than radically changing what Patrol owners valued, Nissan expanded the vehicle's appeal by making extended road trips and family touring more comfortable.
Naturally Aspirated V8 Defines The Experience
The biggest talking point sat beneath the bonnet.
Power came from Nissan's naturally aspirated 5.6-litre petrol V8, producing 298 kW and 560 Nm. According to Nissan, the engine delivered effortless performance, confident towing capability and the distinctive V8 soundtrack that became closely associated with the Y62 throughout its production run.
As production draws to a close, the Y62 also becomes the last Patrol in Australia to use this naturally aspirated V8, ending more than a decade of V8-powered Patrol ownership before the arrival of the twin-turbocharged Y63.
Closing A Significant Chapter
The 2022 Nissan Patrol Ti-L Y62 represents more than another model year. It sits near the end of one of the longest-running chapters in Patrol history, arriving as Nissan reflects on more than six decades of Australian sales and over 258,000 Patrols delivered locally across five generations.
With the all-new Y63 set to introduce a twin-turbocharged V6, the Ti-L remains one of the last opportunities to experience Nissan's naturally aspirated V8 flagship. For many Patrol owners, that combination of effortless power, touring comfort and proven capability is likely to define the Y62's legacy for years to come.
