The Patrol Warrior was developed with Melbourne-based Premcar for Australian conditions.
It features revised suspension, increased ground clearance, bespoke wheels and a bi-modal side-exit exhaust.
More than 5,200 Patrol Warrior models have been sold since its launch in 2023.
The 2022 Nissan Patrol Warrior Y62 wasn't created to replace the standard Patrol. It was built to take an SUV already known for long-distance touring and off-road capability, then tailor it for the demands of Australian conditions.
As Nissan reflects on more than six decades of Patrol history in Australia, the Warrior stands out as one of the most distinctive chapters in that story. Developed locally with Melbourne engineering company Premcar, it became a factory-backed interpretation of what many Australian four-wheel-drive enthusiasts were already building themselves.
Built Around Australia's Conditions
Unlike a simple appearance package, the Patrol Warrior received meaningful mechanical changes.
Premcar reworked the suspension to better suit rough Australian terrain, while increasing ground clearance to improve off-road capability. Bespoke alloy wheels and all-terrain tyres completed the chassis upgrades, giving the large SUV a noticeably tougher stance without altering the Patrol's familiar proportions. A bi-modal side-exit exhaust added another distinguishing feature and became one of the Warrior's visual signatures.
The result still looked unmistakably like a Patrol, although subtle details separated it from the regular model.
A Familiar Cabin With Touring In Mind
Inside, the Warrior retained the layout introduced with the Y62 generation. The cabin combined generous seating space with the technology and comfort features that helped move the Patrol into the modern full-size SUV segment when it arrived in Australia in 2013.
Its appeal wasn't centred on dramatic interior redesigns. Instead, the focus remained on providing a comfortable environment for long highway drives before the vehicle reached unsealed tracks and remote destinations. That balance between refinement and capability had become one of the defining characteristics of the Y62 generation.
V8 Power Defined The Experience
Every Patrol Warrior was powered by Nissan's naturally aspirated 5.6-litre V8, producing 298 kW and 560 Nm.
Rather than chasing outright performance figures, the engine earned its reputation through effortless acceleration, confident towing capability and the unmistakable soundtrack that accompanied the large-capacity V8. As Nissan prepares to transition to the twin-turbocharged Y63 generation, the Warrior also represents one of the final chapters for V8-powered Patrol production in Australia.
A Special Place In Patrol History
The Warrior became more than a limited engineering exercise. Since production began, more than 5,200 examples have found Australian owners, highlighting demand for a Patrol engineered specifically for local roads and off-road conditions.
Production of the Y62 Patrol is now drawing to a close ahead of the arrival of the next-generation Y63. That makes the 2022 Nissan Patrol Warrior Y62 part of the closing years of Australia's V8 Patrol era, while also representing one of the few locally engineered factory performance and off-road programs in Nissan Australia's recent history.
