A Pickup with Personality

By the time the Felicia Fun appeared in 1997, Škoda had already built a reputation for simple, affordable cars under the Volkswagen Group umbrella. The Fun, though, was something different — a small pickup finished almost exclusively in bright yellow, trimmed with black plastic cladding, and marketed as a lifestyle vehicle rather than just another workhorse.

The defining feature was in the back. A clever sliding bulkhead allowed the rear wall of the cabin to move forward, freeing up a pair of fold-out seats in the cargo bed. It meant the Felicia Fun could carry four people under an open sky — part pickup, part convertible, part weekend toy.

Dimensionally, the Fun was still very much a city-friendly Felicia. Short, narrow, and easy to maneuver, it was better suited to urban errands than rugged trails. Inside, the Felicia Fun mirrored the standard Felicia pickup, with straightforward plastics, simple controls, and very little in the way of luxury. The difference came in the seating flexibility. Those fold-out rear benches made it possible to carry extra passengers for short trips — provided they didn’t mind the exposure — and optional tonneau covers or a hardtop gave the bed some weather protection. It wasn’t refined, but it was inventive.

When it launched, the Felicia Fun was marketed heavily in Western Europe, aimed at younger buyers who wanted something playful but still practical. It never sold in big volumes, and by the time production ended in 2000, it had already become something of an oddity in Škoda’s lineup.
