The $1,750-a-Day Getaway: How a Rolls-Royce Cullinan Became Detroit’s Infamous Bank Robbery Ride
By Team Dailyrevs March 20, 2025
In the world of high-end rentals, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is a statement—opulence on wheels, typically gracing weddings, music videos, and once-in-a-lifetime events. But recently, one white Cullinan with an orange interior made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The story begins in Southfield, Michigan, where Sam Zahar, owner of Dream Luxury Car Rental, rents out exotic vehicles like Bentleys, Lamborghinis, and his favorite—the $500,000 Rolls-Royce Cullinan. At $1,750 per day, the Cullinan is Zahar’s crown jewel. But in a bizarre twist, the SUV became a tool for crime rather than glamour.
Scrolling through Metro Detroit news on his phone, Zahar spotted a viral clip of a white Rolls being towed after a police chase. "This is my car," he told FOX 2, stunned to see detectives circling his house hours later. With the Cullinan registered under his company, police initially thought Zahar himself might be involved in the spree.
The vehicle was linked to a series of daring bank heists spanning Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb counties. According to authorities, Metro Detroit suspect Dorian Sykes allegedly used the Cullinan to rob banks, escaping with just over $13,000—a surprisingly modest sum compared to the value of his getaway vehicle.
The Heists at a Glance:
Date | Location | Amount Stolen | Getaway Car |
---|---|---|---|
March 6, 2025 | Credit Union One, Sterling Heights | $10,169 | Rolls-Royce Cullinan |
Later that week | Unspecified Detroit Bank | $3,400 | Rolls-Royce Cullinan |
After a high-speed chase, police recovered the Cullinan—battered but intact, sustaining around $15,000 in damages. Sykes, however, slipped through their fingers and remains at large.
This isn’t the first time Zahar’s fleet has found itself in hot water. In recent months, a G-Wagon was involved in a mail truck robbery, and a Rolls-Royce Ghost was hijacked mid-transport from Miami to Detroit.
The FBI confirmed Sykes' identity, citing a prior conviction tied to a 2020 heist involving a far less conspicuous black Mercedes. This time, though, his choice of a half-a-million-dollar, attention-grabbing Rolls-Royce SUV raised eyebrows.
Zahar summed it up best: “I really wish he took something else.”
Design Meets Irony
The irony is hard to miss: a meticulously crafted SUV, renowned for bespoke luxury, used for chaotic smash-and-grabs. With its bold white exterior and vibrant orange cabin, this Cullinan was always destined to turn heads—but probably not from the FBI.
The SUV has since returned to Zahar’s website, available once again to anyone ready to shell out $1,750 a day—no felonies required.
