Volvo will stop producing both the V90 and V90 Cross Country in September 2025.

Volvo Ends Production of Its 90-Series Wagons
Volvo has confirmed that the whole V90 range—both the regular wagon and the raised Cross Country—will go out of production in September 2025. Orders have already been closed off, and only restricted dealer stock is left. The news puts an official end to Volvo's 90-series wagons, once at the heart of the brand's global identity.
Only One Wagon Remains
With both V90 models eliminated, the V60 Cross Country is Volvo's sole remaining wagon available in the U.S. Wagons were once the core of Volvo's lineup, with safety, functionality, and unassuming style. Now, they're squeezed into a dwindling niche, while SUVs have infiltrated the mainstream.
The SUV Market Redefines Demand
The popularity of SUVs is the driving force behind the V90's decline. Consumers have moved in huge numbers to crossovers like the XC60 and XC90, abandoning wagons to dwindling sales. Volvo has taken its cue, adding to its portfolio of SUVs and realigning its lineup to address global demand for elevated vehicles.
Volvo's Electric Future
The future chapter of the company will be written by electrification. Future models such as the EX60 SUV and the ES90 electric liftback will be at the forefront of Volvo's shift, telling us that the future is decidedly with SUVs and EVs over wagons. The manufacturer has not announced a like-for-like replacement for the V90.
Closing a Legacy
The demise of the V90 highlights a wider industry trend. Volvo based much of its image on long-roof estates that became icons in Europe and elsewhere. With the V90 out of the picture, that heritage reverts to the V60 Cross Country—and possibly not for much longer. At least for the time being, the marketplace has spoken: wagons are on the wane, and SUVs are here to stay.
