Tesla’s vision of a reimagined American roadside stop has finally materialized on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles. The new Tesla Diner—fitted with V4 Superchargers, open-air movie screens, and a full-service restaurant—is now operational and open 24/7. It's positioned less as a novelty and more as a template for what Tesla may replicate globally at high-traffic charging hubs.

The diner operates on a retro-futuristic theme, echoing 1950s Americana with a Jetsons-style twist. The branding, the architecture, and even the packaging nod to a stylized, optimistic future that once existed only in cartoons. But behind the aesthetics is a business case rooted in dwell time—people waiting 20 to 30 minutes while their cars charge are now being offered burgers, fries, and a screen-based experience from the comfort of their vehicle.

Food, Film, and Full Charge: The New Tesla Customer Experience

While the menu leans toward classic American comfort food—cheeseburgers, milkshakes, wings, and fries—the method of delivery aligns with Tesla’s automation agenda. According to recent public demonstrations and statements from Elon Musk, Optimus robots are expected to take over some food service tasks, including popcorn delivery. The robots are not yet fully deployed at the site, but their involvement has been confirmed.

In addition to the food and film combination, the site is equipped with a full bank of V4 Superchargers. These are the latest iteration in Tesla’s charging network and represent the fastest publicly accessible version available in North America. They also enable support for CCS-equipped EVs, continuing Tesla’s push toward opening the network to non-Tesla vehicles.

This new site also experiments with in-car ordering. Customers can place an order from their Tesla touchscreen, have food delivered directly to their car, and continue watching drive-in movie content on large outdoor displays. Cybertruck-shaped food containers add to the theme but serve a secondary function—strengthening the brand ecosystem around new and upcoming Tesla products.

Elon Musk Confirms Expansion Potential

During the launch, Elon Musk referred to the Hollywood site as “one of the coolest places in LA,” suggesting that this is not a one-off experiment. Multiple reports and prior filings indicate Tesla’s intent to build similar locations at other Supercharger hubs across the U.S., especially in areas where long-distance EV travel is common.
