Mustang Mach E recorded 7,226 U.S. sales during August, its best month to date.
The EV outsold gas-powered Mustangs by more than two times.
Ford's overall EV sales rose almost 20 percent year-over-year.
Mach E Delivers Its Strongest Sales Month Yet
The Mach E just did something that few believed was possible: outsell the venerable Mustang. Ford officially reported 7,226 Mach E deliveries in August, the all-electric crossover's best sales month since its introduction. That number was a 35 percent increase versus the same month last year.
In contrast, the gas-powered Mustang coupe and convertible combined sold 3,235 units. The comparison is dramatic—over two Mach Es sold for each one internal combustion Mustang.
Ford’s EV Lineup Crosses 10,000 Units in August
The Mach E was not alone in driving Ford's numbers higher. Altogether, the company sold 10,671 electric vehicles last month across its brand. That includes the F-150 Lightning pickup and the E-Transit van, both of which are still establishing solid demand. Ford's EV sales overall were up 19 percent compared with last year, displaying real momentum as many automakers are having trouble keeping up with production and demand.
Nevertheless, the Mach E is the undisputed headliner. The crossover's expansion is doing most of the heavy lifting for Ford's EV business, with month-over-month gains contributing consistently to make it a staple in the segment.
Electric Mustang Pulls Ahead of Its Gasoline Sibling
The Mach E's August sales demonstrate that Ford's bet on electrifying the Mustang badge is paying dividends. No curiosity or niche item, the EV has become a volume seller in Ford's stable. outselling its gas-powered sibling by this kind of margin isn't symbolic—it indicates a larger trend among consumers who desire Mustang performance DNA with the prudence and efficiency of an electric crossover.
In a space where Tesla has long reigned supreme, Ford is proving that old brands can compete—and win—if they tap into legendary badges with the proper amount of performance and utility.
Ford Targets Supply Gains to Match Demand
Ford's attention now is maintaining supply in balance with expanding demand. As production enhancements continue and momentum is obviously increasing, the Mach E is poised to continue as a priority performer in Ford's EV initiative. In the meantime, the classic Mustang is not going anywhere, but sales patterns indicate the electric variant is already redefining what the Mustang represents in 2025.
