BYD’s Super e-Platform Revolutionizes EVs with Megawatt Charging and Record-Breaking Power

BYD’s Super e-Platform: Ushering in the Megawatt Charging Era

In the rapidly evolving electric vehicle (EV) landscape, BYD has stepped firmly into the spotlight with its newly launched Super e-Platform. The platform’s capabilities go beyond incremental improvements—this is a generational leap. Not only does it deliver blistering power figures, but it also makes the concept of a five-minute EV recharge a reality.

At the heart of this breakthrough is BYD's revamped Blade battery, dubbed the "flash-charge battery". Thanks to a 10C charging multiplier and peak 1000kW (1MW) charging power, these batteries take EV recharging into uncharted territory, effectively doubling what Tesla's latest V4 Superchargers offer.

The Powertrain: Numbers That Rival Supercars

The Super e-Platform doesn’t just prioritize fast charging; performance is equally jaw-dropping. The updated Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, the first two models to ride on this platform, benefit from a dual-motor setup generating up to 1084bhp, with 0-62mph times as quick as 2.7 seconds in the Han L. The platform’s in-house-developed motor is the first mass-produced unit to surpass 30,000rpm, peaking at 30,511rpm.

BYD's engineering team has paired this innovation with a next-gen silicon carbide power chip architecture rated up to 1500V, ensuring high efficiency and thermal management even under extreme loads.

Rewriting EV Infrastructure

BYD’s plans extend beyond vehicles. More than 4000 megawatt-capable supercharging stations are set to be rolled out across China. These stations will be integrated with energy storage facilities to ensure stable high-power delivery, even in areas with grid limitations.

Model Launch and Pre-Sales

Pre-sales for the Han L EV and Tang L EV have already begun, with prices starting from RMB 270,000 (approx. £29,500) and RMB 280,000 (£30,600) respectively. Additionally, BYD has confirmed that plug-in hybrid variants (Han L DM & Tang L DM) with DM-p hybrid systems will follow shortly, with impressive 0-62mph times under 4.3 seconds.

A Nod to BYD's Legacy

Since its founding in 1995, BYD has evolved from a battery manufacturer into a global leader in electric mobility. Its original "Build Your Dreams" ethos has driven bold innovations like the Blade battery and now the Super e-Platform. As EVs race toward ever-higher levels of performance and convenience, BYD is not just keeping pace but setting the tempo.
