- Isuzu's first electric pickup, the 2026 D-Max EV, debuts with dual motors and full-time 4WD.
- Offers a 1-tonne payload and 3.5-tonne towing capacity, matching diesel counterparts.
- Equipped with a 66.9kWh battery, delivering up to 263 km range (WLTP).
Familiar Toughness, New Heart
From a distance, the 2026 Isuzu D-Max EV doesn’t scream electric. That’s the point. It still looks like a D-Max — squared-off stance, strong shoulder line, that hard-edged front end. But up close, there are tells. The grille is closed off, a nod to aero efficiency. Blue accents peek out around the front bumper and wheels. A small “EV Concept” badge on the bed quietly hints at what’s going on under the skin.
There’s a bit of restraint in the design, and that’s refreshing. It doesn’t need to announce itself. It just gets on with the job.
Dual-Motor Muscle with Workhorse Numbers
Let’s talk numbers. The D-Max EV runs on two electric motors — one at each axle — for a total of 130kW (around 174 hp) and 325Nm of torque. Not sports car stuff, but it’s the kind of torque that gets things done. And importantly, it’s full-time 4WD thanks to Isuzu’s new e-axle design.
Top speed? Over 130 km/h. Realistically, that’s more than enough for the kind of use this thing will see — rural roads, fleet runs, worksites.
Under the floor sits a 66.9kWh battery. It’ll do 263 km on the WLTP cycle, with closer to 360 km in the city. Not mind-blowing, but again — it’s aimed at daily utility, not grand touring.
Still a Real Truck
What matters most for a pickup? Payload and towing. Isuzu didn’t hold back. The D-Max EV hauls up to 1,000 kg and tows up to 3,500 kg — just like its diesel sibling. That’s not something every electric pickup can claim yet.
Against rivals like the diesel Hilux or Ranger, it stacks up well. And unlike those, it’s fully electric. For now, that’s rare.
Where It’s Going — and Who It’s For
Isuzu’s launching the EV in Norway first — no surprise there — before expanding to other parts of Europe in late 2025. The UK will follow in early 2026. Expect the electric version to arrive in top V-Cross trim only, likely targeting fleet buyers and eco-minded businesses.
No price tag just yet, but it’ll sit above the standard diesel D-Max, which starts around $41,600. Think upper $40Ks to low $50Ks depending on spec.
Still Safety-Minded
The EV version inherits the D-Max’s crash structure and driver-assist tech — a platform that’s already earned five stars from Euro NCAP. So while the powertrain is new, the safety credentials are proven.
The 2026 Isuzu D-Max EV isn’t loud or flashy. It doesn’t need to be. It just shows up, ready to work, with a battery under its belly and enough torque to pull a trailer through the mud. A proper truck — now electric.
