More Than Just a Faster M2
BMW pulled the wraps off the 2026 M2 CS G87 at Villa d’Este, giving its compact bruiser a sharper edge. It still looks like an M2 — squat, aggressive, very rear-biased in stance — but this one’s meaner. Lighter. Built for the type of driver who switches off stability control... on purpose.
Compared to the standard M2, the CS version drops 97 pounds, adds visual drama, and gets a power bump. Not a reinvention — more like a performance cleanse.
Design That Bites
Let’s talk stance. This thing sits low and wide, just like it should. BMW didn’t go overboard, but you’ll notice the ducktail spoiler straight away. It’s not subtle, and it’s not trying to be. Same with the carbon roof and mirror caps — all real, all functional.
The wheels? Matte Gold Bronze. They’re loud. But somehow, they work, especially when paired with colors like the launch-spec Velvet Blue. It’s an extrovert’s car, but with just enough restraint to stay tasteful.
Firepower Under the Hood
At its core, the M2 CS G87 is still running BMW’s S58 inline-six. But here, it’s tuned to 523 hp and 479 lb-ft. All that gets sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic. No manual option this time — some will gripe, others won’t care. It’ll do 0–100 km/h in just about four seconds flat and won’t run out of steam until nearly 189 mph.
It’s fast. But more importantly, it’s been sharpened. The reduced weight — helped by those carbon bits — gives it a more responsive feel. BMW’s chassis team definitely had track time in mind.
Inside: Purpose Over Plush
The cabin is all business. Carbon bucket seats grip tight. Alcantara wraps the dash and console. There are subtle CS touches throughout — badging, contrast stitching, all the usual cues. The infotainment is familiar, which is fine. No one’s buying this car to fiddle with menus.
It feels focused, but not stripped. There’s still enough daily-driver friendliness for quick weekend getaways. But it’s clearly designed for back roads and circuit days.
Aimed at Enthusiasts — Not Everyone
BMW hasn’t confirmed pricing yet, but it’ll almost certainly come in above the regular M2’s $64,900 tag — maybe well into the $80K–$90K range. That puts it right in the wheelhouse of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 or even a lightly used GT3 if you're lucky.
But that’s not the point. The 2026 BMW M2 CS G87 isn’t about numbers on a spreadsheet. It’s about feel. Feedback. The way it squats coming out of a corner. And for the folks who get that, this one’s going to hit just right.
