A Fresh Take for Lake Como
BMW’s return to the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este brought something a little unexpected this year — the 2025 BMW Speedtop Concept. It’s not a convertible, not quite a coupe. It’s a shooting brake, and it looks like it just slipped out of a Milanese tailor’s workshop and onto the tarmac.
The proportions are classic GT — long hood, tight rear, wide track. But it’s the details that pull you in. There's a subtle V-shaped front end that leans forward just enough to feel assertive without trying too hard. Flanking that, slim headlamps draw your eye toward the illuminated kidney grille — yeah, it lights up, and it works better here than in other recent BMWs.
Design Details That Matter
The body color is where BMW flexes its artistic muscles. They call it "Floating Sunstone Maroon" up front, fading into "Floating Sundown Silver" toward the back. Sounds fancy — and it is. There’s a single visible spine that runs along the roofline, finishing in an aluminum accent that dips between the rear seats like a fin.
Wheels? Two-tone, 21-inch, 14-spoke designs that you won’t find on your neighbor’s 3 Series. And the stance — squat, muscular, planted. This thing looks like it belongs on the Autobahn and a golf course in the same weekend.
A Cabin That Doesn’t Play Catch-Up
Inside, it’s less concept car and more boutique lounge. The seats and panels wear two-tone leather — Sundown Maroon and Moonstone White — stitched with brogue-style perforations. BMW worked with Italian leather house Schedoni to develop matching bespoke luggage that slots behind the seats, tucked into its own dedicated compartments.
There’s also a subtle strip of ambient light that runs up the middle of the headliner, mimicking the roof’s exterior line. Small touch, but it ties things together in a way that makes the cabin feel thought-through rather than thrown together for the show.
What Powers It Matters
BMW didn’t spend much time nerding out about specs — but they did confirm the Speedtop packs their most powerful V8. Which, if it’s anything like what powers the current M8, we’re talking 617 horsepower or more. That’s plenty for a car that looks this good standing still.
And yes, it’s going into production. Not mass production — just 70 examples, aimed squarely at collectors who appreciate craftsmanship with actual teeth under the hood.
Not Quite a One-Off, But Close
The 2025 BMW Speedtop Concept feels like a riff on the Skytop but with a bit more edge. It’s not gunning for mass-market rivals like Audi’s RS 5 Sportback or Mercedes-AMG’s GT 4-Door — it’s off in its own lane, somewhere between art piece and asphalt warrior.
And that’s probably the point.
