About the Car

2023 Nissan X-Trail European Version

Nissan presents the fourth generation of the X-Trail, which with over 20 years of history and 7 million units sold worldwide is one of the most popular vehicles of the Japanese manufacturer. You can find more visual details of the 2023 Nissan X-Trail – European Version gallery by scrolling up.

For the debut of the car on European roads, Slovenia was chosen, which with its breathtaking landscapes and paths immersed in nature allows to enhance the spirit of the Nissan crossover designed for family and adventure.

The new X-Trail is the fifth electrified model launched by Nissan in 2022, one of the most important years ever that marks a strong acceleration towards Nissan’s vision of sustainable mobility. Now the Nissan crossover range is the newest and most complete in the Italian automotive landscape, with Juke Hybrid, Qashqai e-POWER, 100% electric ARIYA and X-Trail e-POWER, offering different electrification solutions and innovative technologies for every need of customers. Also in 2022, Nissan launched the new 100% electric Nissan Townstar, the ideal compact commercial vehicle for city operations and last-mile deliveries.

In 2023, there will be an electrified version for each model in the range, before reaching 2030 when all Nissan products sold will be electrified.

All of this is part of the Nissan Ambition 2030 plan, the long-term vision of the Japanese company to improve mobility, towards a cleaner, safer and more inclusive world.

Powerful and modern design

X-Trail conveys confidence and safety at first glance. The exterior is characterized by typical Nissan design elements, such as the floating roof and the V-Motion grille, with the front embellished with light clusters that follow the line of the bonnet.

From the side view, the generous wheel arches convey sturdiness, while the moldings draw a line between the front and rear wheel arches, helping to give dynamism to the car body.

At the rear, the C-pillar, the rear window and the spoiler integrate with each other for an elegant and clean design, completed by enveloping split lights, which guarantee a wide opening of the boot.

Many solutions designed to offer maximum aerodynamic efficiency: 3D deflectors for tires; active front grille to automatically adjust the air flow in the engine compartment; fairing underbody to optimize flows under the car; A pillar designed to improve aerodynamic penetration and an exclusive shaping of the front to accompany the air flows to the sides of the car.

The new X-Trail offers ample room for customization, with 10 colors available for the bodywork and five two-tone combinations, for a total of 15 variants.

Premium and functional interior

The interior of the new Nissan X-Trail rewrites the standards in the segment for design and practicality. The superior quality of materials and finishes, technologies for comfort, driver assistance systems and connectivity, all combined with the large space available, offer the driver and passengers a comfortable, functional and relaxing environment.

Great attention has been paid to the buttons and switches in the passenger compartment, which are simple to use and intuitive and convey a sense of quality and modernity to the eye and to the touch.

In the central console there is the mode selector (e-shifter), together with two cup holders and a slot for wireless charging for 15w smartphones. The system actively recharges the smartphone battery, unlike other systems on the market which only prevent it from discharging.

Between the front seats there is an elbow rest inside which there is a large storage space, which, thanks to the “butterfly” opening system, is easily accessible even by rear seat passengers. Under the central console there is an additional and convenient compartment that can accommodate a bag or tablet.

Practical and versatile

The rear doors with about 90 ° opening make it easy to load and unload, to install a child seat or simply to get into the car.

The second row of seats is divided into a 40:20:40 configuration, with a central door for transporting long objects, such as skis, without having to fold down one of the two backrests. The rear bench seat can slide forward to maximize boot space and allow easy access to the third row in the seven-seater configuration.

Passengers in the rear bench seat can access dedicated controls for the climate control system, along with a dual USB type A and C ports.

The new X-Trail is the only electrified seven-seater SUV in its class. The third row seats are designed to accommodate passengers up to 160 cm in height and to access them simply fold down the rear bench.

The boot of the new X-Trail is “best in class” for length and width between the wheel arches and is at the top of the category for load capacity with 585 liters, 20 liters more than the previous generation. Changes have been made to facilitate loading and unloading operations and allow for better organization of spaces. The trunk panels, which have durable carpet on one side and an easy-to-clean plastic cover on the other, allow for 16 different arrangements to fully customize the cargo area. The electric tailgate is automatic and can be operated even with full hands.

e-POWER, the electric without plug

The new X-Trail is the second model in Nissan’s range in Europe to be equipped with the innovative e-POWER propulsion system, a Nissan patent that represents a new approach to electrifying mobility.

In the e-POWER system on board the new X-Trail, the 204 hp (150 kW) electric motor is the only one that moves the car’s wheels and guarantees driving pleasure typical of an EV, with brilliant acceleration and remarkable torque of 330 Nm immediately available, at any speed and in all circumstances. Pushing the accelerator pedal all the way gives the driver the same sensation as driving a high-performance sedan, but with greater fluidity and progression in the delivery of power.

You can find more visual details of the 2023 Nissan X-Trail – European Version gallery by scrolling up.

The electricity required for traction is produced on board the car by a refined 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, capable of guaranteeing maximum efficiency and performance thanks to the innovative technology with variable compression ratio. The system does not provide for recharging on plug and to fill up with energy just fill the petrol tank at a traditional operator.

The energy produced by the heat engine goes to the inverter and from this can be transmitted to the battery, the electric motor or both. Under no circumstances is the thermal power transmitted directly to the wheels. Everything is regulated by a sophisticated control unit that optimizes the energy flows based on a series of parameters, including the state of charge of the battery, the driving conditions and the demand for motive power, and maximizes the time in which the heat engine remains off.

Traveling at low speed, the energy produced by the thermal engine goes partly to the electric motor and partly to the battery and when the latter is fully charged, the thermal engine switches off and the machine moves on exclusively from the battery charge.

In case of strong acceleration or traveling at high speed, the energy needed by the electric motor comes from both the heat engine and the battery. The control unit also manages the regeneration phase, so when the accelerator pedal is released or the brake is applied, the electric motor transforms the vehicle’s kinetic energy into electrical energy which recharges the battery.

Efficiency is one of the strengths of e-POWER, whose low consumption and low emissions make it the ideal system for any type of journey, but above all in urban and sub-urban contexts, where European crossover customers drive for the 70% of their time.

To further increase the acoustic comfort of drivers and passengers accustomed to traveling in traditional cars, Linear Tune was created, a system that guarantees a direct connection between the number of revolutions of the thermal engine and the speed of the car. A very refined solution considering that in the e-POWER system the petrol engine is not connected to the wheels of the car. In addition, the e-POWER propulsion system ensures silent driving: aboard the X-Trail at 40 km / h the noise on board is reduced by 8 db compared to competing models.

e-4ORCE, the Nissan 4×4 meets the future

e-4ORCE is Nissan’s most advanced all-wheel drive technology, designed to be paired with electrified powertrains. Its nature is in its name, where “e” stands for 100% electric Nissan traction motor, “4ORCE” stands for power and “4” for all-wheel drive.

The two electric motors, one for each axle, are managed by a sophisticated system that regulates the driving force and braking action on the individual wheels, to ensure unprecedented safety, control and ride comfort on every track, every surface and in every condition. The driving force reacts to grip changes 10,000 times faster than a traditional mechanical 4WD system, so when cornering, on wet or snow-covered roads, the vehicle faithfully follows the trajectory set by the driver.

The engine on the front axle has an output of 204 hp (150 kW), while the one on the rear axle has an output of 136 hp (100 kW). The total power of the e-4ORCE system is 213 hp (157 kW), as the two engines never produce their respective maximum powers at the same time. The acceleration is burning and it takes 7 seconds to go from 0 to 100km / hi.

Furthermore, the constant redistribution of torque, the almost perfect balance of the weights between the two axles and the regenerative braking also on the rear engine guarantee maximum handling and minimum pitch and roll, which translate into superior comfort and driving pleasure.

e-Pedal Step for the first time on X-Trail

The e-Pedal Step debuts on the X-Trail, a technology already present on other Nissan electrified models that allows you to accelerate and slow down the car using only the accelerator pedal.

The e-Pedal Step, which can be activated via a button in the center console, slows the X-Trail with a force equal to 0.2 g when the accelerator pedal is released, enough to make the rear brake lights come on, progressively reducing the speed of the vehicle, but without stopping it completely. The brake pedal is always available in case of need.

With the e-Pedal Step driving is smoother and more relaxing, especially in traffic conditions with numerous stops and restarts and low-speed maneuvers are facilitated.

All the advantages of the CMF-C platform

As on Qashqai, the new X-Trail is also built on the CMF-C platform of the Alliance, which represents the cutting edge in terms of technological structures and architectures in the automotive sector.

For the construction of the body, the engineers opted for a lighter material and adopted sophisticated molding and welding techniques, which increase strength and reduce weight. For the first time, the X-Trail’s tailgate is made of a composite material, while the front and rear doors, front fenders and hood are made of aluminum.

You can find more visual details of the 2023 Nissan X-Trail – European Version gallery by scrolling up.

Thanks to the CMF-C platform, the new X-Trail can mount an updated MacPherson suspension system at the front and an advanced multi-link at the rear.

The power steering setup has been updated and offers better response, better feel in the center of the steering range and reduced friction.

All this contributes to improving the car’s dynamic behavior, comfort, driving precision and safety for the driver and passengers.

Technological and connected with NissanConnect

The new X-Trail is equipped with an advanced infotainment system, which offers a wide range of connected services, including integration with smartphones, In-Car WiFi to connect up to seven devices, and the NissanConnect app. Services to manage and monitor the vehicle remotely.

The 12.3 “NissanConnect high-resolution display gives access to all vehicle navigation, entertainment and setup functions, and is compatible with both Android Auto® and Apple CarPlay® (wireless connection is also available for the latter ).

The 12.3 ”multifunction TFT screen, also at high resolution, is configurable to provide the driver with information on the vehicle, navigation, traffic or entertainment; just use the steering wheel controls to scroll through the different views. To highlight the Japanese DNA, the background of the TFT has a pattern reminiscent of Japanese “Kiriko” carved glass.

The innovative 10.8-inch Head-Up Display (HUD), the largest in its class, projects key route information, driver assistance functions and directions directly onto the windshield, without the driver distracting the eyes from the street.

Home-to-Car functions are compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa devices. The system supports a wide range of commands, including the ability to send destinations to the infotainment via your smartphone, reducing the time required to enter navigation data.

Thanks to the NissanConnect Services application, it is possible via smartphone to remotely interact with the car to open and close the doors, activate the horn and the lights. In addition, an alert system is available, which warns if the car is used beyond a predetermined perimeter, time or speed. A valuable function for parents who give the car in use to their children.

Sitting in the driver’s seat, the voice command system can be activated to conveniently use a range of on-board functions and equipment without taking your eyes off the road.

For navigation, you can access 3D Maps & Live Traffic, which includes advanced features such as OTA (Over The Air) map updates, real-time traffic conditions, Google Street View and fuel prices. Through the app, the Door-to-Door navigation functions and My Car Finder are available, the latter very useful for finding your car in crowded parking lots.

Connectivity extends to all occupants with the console box now offering front and rear USB charging connections with USB Type A and C ports.

New Pro PILOT Assist with Navi-link

The new X-Trail is equipped with the latest generation of the Pro PILOT system, which assists the driver in an increasing number of situations. Called “Pro PILOT Assist with Navi-link”, it has been designed to reduce fatigue and stress for those behind the wheel thanks to a very intuitive interface.

Pro PILOT Assist with Navi-link can adjust acceleration and braking in the single lane when traveling on the motorway. In traffic situations, it can slow the car to a stop and restart it automatically (if the stop lasts less than 3 seconds) when the cars in front start moving again.

In the new Nissan X-Trail, the system is able to adapt the vehicle’s speed to an updated set of external circumstances. For example, when traveling on motorway sections with lower speed limits, the system is able to read road signs and, taking into account the speed set by the navigator, it can slow down the car to respect the limits in that section, all without the driver has to manually adjust the navigator settings. The system also acquires data from the navigator and is able to adjust the speed in curves or on the ramps of motorway exits.

But that is not all. Pro PILOT Assist with Navi-link can communicate with the new X-Trail’s radar sensors that monitor blind spots and can intervene on the steering to help prevent lane changes if another vehicle is present in the blind spot area.

The system can also intervene to avoid reversing accidents when exiting car parks, thanks to the improvement of the Moving Object Detection system, which can now apply the brakes if it detects a moving obstacle nearby.

Advanced active and passive safety systems

Safety on board is ensured by Nissan’s new Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking with predictive function. Advanced radar technology reads the road past the car in front and detects if a vehicle suddenly brakes. In this case, the system activates the braking system to reduce the likelihood of a collision.

Greater safety even when traveling at night, thanks to sophisticated optical groups that adapt the shape of the light beam according to road conditions and the presence of other users. The beam is divided into individual elements which selectively deactivate if a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction is detected. Thanks to this innovation, the light from the headlights remains wide and deep, but the projected profile changes so as not to dazzle other drivers.

Still on the subject of safety, there is now a new central airbag, which unfolds between the two front seats, to prevent the occupants from hitting each other in the event of a side impact. The central airbag integrates those of the driver and passenger, as well as the side and curtain airbags fitted as standard on the new X-Trail.
