The ever-popular Mazda2 receives a significant update for 2023, showcasing fresh exterior styling and a refined cabin trim treatment. With the introduction of four new trim grades, namely Centre-Line, Homura, Exclusive-Line, and Homura Aka, the 2023 Mazda2 boasts a new grille design, sleeker bumper aesthetics, and two captivating exterior colors making their debut in the Mazda supermini lineup: Aero Grey and Air Stream Blue.

A Redefined Design: Express Your Individuality In the pursuit of providing customers with a broader array of choices to reflect their individuality, Mazda’s designers have implemented new design elements that lend each model a more distinctive appearance. The Centre-Line and Exclusive-Line models exude a fun and casual nature, while the Homura and Homura Aka models are designed to embody a sportier look and character, appealing to enthusiasts seeking a dynamic driving experience.

Exterior Enhancements: A Captivating Presence Across all models, the 2023 Mazda2 showcases a redesigned grille where the signature Mazda wing surround now extends behind the number plate, allowing for the accentuation of the sportier lower bumper trim and shape. The signature wing grille surround cuts into the leading edge of the headlight, creating a sharper and more assertive look. Moreover, all models feature asymmetrically placed color accent tabs on the front grille and rear bumper, adding a touch of flair.

Centre-Line and Exclusive-Line: Unmistakable New Look The Centre-Line and Exclusive-Line models present a front-end design characterized by a large colored panel across the lower section of the grille. Combined with the new front bumper design and a more prominent lower grille section featuring a gloss black signature wing surround, the 2023 Mazda2 exudes an unmistakable new aesthetic. To offer customers more color combination choices, the grille panel is body colored for Soul Red Crystal, Snowflake White, Platinum Quartz, Polymetal Grey, and the new Air Stream Blue. In contrast, Machine Grey, Deep Crystal Blue, Ceramic Metallic, and the new Aero Grey color feature a Jet Black grille panel, creating a smart contrasting look. Jet Black cars also come with a Jet Black grille panel.

Interior Refinement: A Blend of Style and Elegance Inside the Centre-Line and Exclusive-Line models, a similar color combination style prevails, featuring a new mint-colored decorative dash panel in Air Stream Blue and Ceramic Metallic variants, while Soul Red Crystal, Snowflake White, Platinum Quartz, and Polymetal Grey versions boast a pure white dash panel. The remaining exterior colors receive a mirror black finish, ensuring a cohesive and stylish interior ambiance.

Homura and Homura Aka: Sporty and Striking The Homura and Homura Aka models take a different approach, designed to offer a sportier interpretation of the Mazda2. Leveraging the Mazda2’s well-proportioned Kodo design and the sleeker bumper design, the Homura flaunts a black honeycomb grille with a red accent tab, gloss black door mirrors, 16-inch black alloy wheels, and a black shark fin roof antenna. At the rear, the red accent tab is situated on the lower right-hand side of the black bumper trim strip.

The range-topping Homura Aka further enhances the sporty and dynamic appearance with its black honeycomb grille featuring a red accent and black mirrors. This model also showcases 16-inch black and silver metallic machined alloy wheels, along with a gloss black roof for a striking color contrast. Inside the Homura Aka cabin, black half-leather seats with red accents, a soft-touch black dash panel with red stitching, and a heated leather steering wheel with red stitching exude a premium and sporty ambiance.

Enhanced Features: Standard Equipment Across the Range As with previous iterations, the 2023 Mazda2 offers excellent standard specifications across its entire range. Navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, cruise control, integrated Bluetooth, and climate control come as standard on all models. The range commences with the 75ps Centre-Line, and the Centre-Line model is also available with the 90ps output. The Homura is offered solely with the 90ps version, while the Exclusive-Line model provides a choice between the 90ps output with automatic or manual transmission. At the top of the range, the Homura Aka offers a choice of 90 or 115ps outputs, both available with automatic or manual gearbox options. With the exception of the 75ps Centre-Line, all manual versions of the Mazda2 feature Mazda’s M Hybrid mild-hybrid system, represented by the e-Skyactiv G badge.

Efficient Performance: Enhanced Powertrain The 2023 Mazda2 retains the efficiency improvements introduced to its 1.5-liter petrol engine in 2022. Notable upgrades include an increased compression ratio from 13.1 to 15.1 and an improved exhaust manifold from a 4-1 to a 4-2-1 design. As a result, CO2 emissions have decreased by 11-14g/km, depending on the output and transmission configuration. For example, the 90ps Homura manual emits only 107g/km compared to the equivalent pre-2022 model’s 90ps Sport variant, which emitted 120g/km.

Uncompromised Dynamics: Engaging and Agile Recognized for its agile handling, the 2023 Mazda2 retains its dynamic setup. All models in the range feature Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus), an evolved version of the GVC system. In addition to the previous system’s engine control, GVC Plus utilizes the brakes to apply direct yaw movement control, further enhancing the Mazda2’s precise and engaging driving experience.

A Statement from Mazda UK’s Managing Director Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director Mazda UK, expressed his enthusiasm for the 2023 Mazda2: “The Mazda2 may be the smallest car we produce, but it embodies the same values of style, driver involvement, and quality that define all our vehicles. With the 2023 Mazda2, we offer our customers increased individuality through distinct model grades, expanded color choices, and refreshed styling. Additionally, by offering the 2023 Mazda2 alongside the Mazda2 Hybrid, we provide customers in the supermini segment with the freedom to choose the model that suits their needs.”
