Individual, stylish and elegant: this is the i30 Fastback, the third body variant in the successful compact car model series from Hyundai. Own design solutions at the rear, a sweeping roof line and balanced proportions are among the most striking visual features with which the hatchback model bridges the gap between sedan and coupe design. A vehicle height that is 30 millimeters lower than that of the hatchback brother, the 115 millimeter stretched body and standard 18-inch alloy wheels underline the extremely dynamic appearance of the five-door coupe. The now enlarged radiator grille in 3D honeycomb optics and the revised rear apron go well with this. In addition to a new direct-injection petrol engine (fuel consumption in l / 100 km: urban 6.5–6.2; extra-urban 5.0–4.8; combined 5.4; CO2 emissions in g / km combined: 124) is an economical and efficient diesel engine (fuel consumption in l / 100 km: urban 4.7-4.6; extra-urban 4.3-4.2; combined 4.4; CO 2 Emissions in g / km combined: 117–115) to choose from. Both engines are each supported by a 48-volt hybrid system.
Like all other models in the series, the i30 Fastback is also offered with numerous assistance systems and thus offers the highest level of active safety in the compact class. The Fastback comes as standard with an emergency braking assistant with pedestrian detection and collision warning, an active lane departure warning system and an attention and high beam assistant on board. Depending on the equipment line, cyclist detection for the emergency brake assistant, an active blind spot assistant, a rear cross traffic warning with braking function and traffic sign recognition are added as standard or as an option.
Bluelink ® telematics services are standard for buyers of the Prime equipment line and optional in the navigation package for N Line . This means that the driver always has his vehicle under control even when he is out and about: Using a smartphone, he can conveniently lock his i30 Fastback from a distance, query its location or view information on the vehicle status. In addition, the i30 Fastback comes with the eCall emergency call system as standard. In the event of an accident, it automatically contacts the emergency call center via the integrated SIM card and independently transmits the position and other important vehicle and accident data.
Dynamic proportions: length increases, height decreases
The Hyundai i30 Fastback underscores its position as the only five-door coupe in the compact class with its charismatic design, in which dynamism and elegance are convincingly combined. This is already underlined by the dimensions of the model that was created in the brand’s European design center in Rüsselsheim and, like all other variants of the compact car series, comes off the assembly line in the Czech Hyundai plant in Nošovice: Compared to the compact five-door model, the roof line is 25 millimeters lower, and the Body lowered by another five millimeters. The body height is just under 1.43 meters, three centimeters less than that of the hatchback brother. The length has increased by eleven centimeters to around 4.45 meters, which further refines the dynamic character.
The third body variant of the i30 is immediately recognizable when looking from behind. The roofline, which runs in a sweeping arch, ends below the rear window in a spoiler lip that gives the i30 Fastback an additional sporty touch. Individually designed LED taillights, a fold running across the entire width and a distinctive rear bumper round off the distinctive design.
Ample space: sleek lines allow luggage space to grow
The individual lines in the external appearance go hand in hand with proven solutions in the interior. Like all other representatives of the i30 model series, the Fastback also drives up with a functionally and comfortably furnished interior. It was designed according to ergonomic criteria, provides the driver with optimal operating options and, thanks to the wheelbase of 2.65 meters and the well thought-out room management, offers plenty of space for up to five occupants.
Despite the sleek and dynamic coupe design of the body, the generous dimensions of the model series are almost completely retained on the front seats. On the other hand, the luggage compartment volume is significantly larger than that of the i30 with hatchback: the rear compartment has a capacity of 450 liters and can be used in a variety of ways. If the rear seat backrests are folded down, the space under the high-swinging tailgate can take up to 1,351 liters. In both cases, this corresponds to an increase of more than 50 liters compared to the hatchback variant.
Safe thing: i30 Fastback impresses with its active safety
The i30 Fastback is not only causing a sensation with its elegant appearance in the compact class. The extensive range of active safety systems is also one of the outstanding features of the model series, which has already proven its high level of safety in the Euro NCAP crash test with five stars. Numerous assistance systems are available for the series under the name Hyundai SmartSense: Both an autonomous emergency brake assistant including front collision warning with pedestrian detection, an active lane departure warning system and, in connection with the seven-speed dual clutch transmission, an adaptive cruise control system with distance control and stop function prevent accidents. There is also an attention assistant, a high beam assistant and traffic sign recognition.

Extensive standard equipment
The Hyundai i30 Fastback comes with a whole range of these systems as standard – these include the emergency brake assistant, the active lane departure warning system, the attention and high beam assistant and the automatic emergency call system eCall. The i30 Fastback is also convincing in terms of comfort: among other things, audio and air conditioning, 2-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, light sensor, front and rear parking sensors, heated front seats, a heated multifunction steering wheel with leather cover and a reversing camera are standard equipment. The audio system is complemented by DAB + digital radio reception, an 8-inch color touchscreen as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This allows smartphones to be integrated into the on-board system and numerous apps to be operated via the monitor, calls to be made or messages to be read out by the voice assistant.
Tailored comfort level: Prime pampers the occupants
Those who opt for the Prime equipment line can also look forward to an electric parking brake, Bluelink ® telematics system, a digital cockpit with a new 7-inch color display and seats with a fabric-leather combination. In the Prime version, additional functions complement the already exemplary SmartSense security system. These include knee airbags, rain sensors, rear cross traffic warning (7DCT: with brake intervention), lane following assistant, blind spot warning (7DCT: active blind spot assistant) and traffic sign recognition. Externally, the i30 Fastback Prime can be recognized by a chrome surround on the side windows.
The elegant look connects both equipment lines. While bright full-LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights and turn signals turn night into day, the N Line and Prime show the traffic behind their clearly contoured LED taillights. The striking, enlarged radiator grille in both Fastback variants is appealing in glossy black. The windows are tinted dark from the B-pillar.
Sought-after extras: navigation and co. Can come on board on request
If you want to equip your i30 Fastback according to your own ideas, you will find several options, including various option packages in which Hyundai bundles extras. For the i30 Fastback N Line, this includes the assistance package including cyclist detection for the emergency brake assistant, the comfort package with digital cockpit with 7-inch color display and lane following assistant, as well as the navigation package. The latter offers an enlarged 10.25-inch color touchscreen and features traffic sign recognition and Bluelink ® telematics services.
With Bluelink ® , drivers of the i30 Fastback can call up relevant information about their car at any time via smartphone and a SIM card built into the car and control many functions in the same way – such as locking and unlocking the car or sending a destination address to the navigation system. The apps for this are available for download in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
The facelift of the i30 Fastback benefits from extended Bluelink ® functions. This includes a completely revised user interface of the infotainment system with a new start screen, adapted symbols and improved menu navigation. From now on, the routes in the navigation system can also be calculated on a powerful server within the Bluelink ® cloud environment. With this data stored on the servers and updated every month, more precise traffic forecasts and arrival times as well as more reliable recalculations of the route are possible. For the first time, drivers can also create up to two main accounts and a guest account as well as a profile picture via the Bluelink ®Upload the app. This allows individual vehicle preferences such as language as well as Bluetooth and navigation settings to be saved in the cloud and retrieved at any time in other Hyundai vehicles. Another new feature is last mile navigation. It enables drivers to continue navigating to their destination on their smartphone after they have parked their car.

Real-time traffic information and the display of petrol stations and free parking spaces nearby as well as the local search for interesting destinations and the weather forecast have been revised. At the same time, Bluelink ®in the Hyundai i30 Fastback the usual gain in safety. The system reports, for example, when the doors on the vehicle are unlocked or the vehicle alarm system is triggered. In cities where drivers are not familiar, the system locates the parked car using GPS and shows the shortest route to the car. Common denominator for all functions: Hyundai telematics services connect Hyundai drivers with their cars and significantly increase comfort and user-friendliness.
In the i30 Fastback Prime, these packages are already included ex works. Similar to the i30 Fastback N Line, it can be individually equipped with a seat package with ventilated leather seats, glass sunroof and metallic / mineral effect paint.
More driving fun: Fine work on the chassis ensures more sportiness
The drive and engine technology of the revised Hyundai i30 Fastback is just as well thought out as the combination of the two equipment lines. In addition to the state-of-the-art and efficient gasoline and diesel direct injection, which are also used by the brothers with steep and estate rear, he relies on the tried and tested concept with independent front suspension on MacPherson struts and a multi-link architecture at the rear, which is sportier especially for the i30 Fastback was laid out. The result: the dynamic, elegant five-door is agile and safe in all situations, reacts immediately to the driver’s commands and delivers precise handling. Low-emission gasoline and clean diesel engine
Hyundai provides two turbo engines for the i30 Fastback: The newly developed 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with 117 kW (159 hp) and gasoline particle filter complies with the Euro 6d emissions standard. The 1.6-liter turbodiesel with 100 kW (136 PS) introduced since model year 2019 also meets the Euro 6d emissions standard and has SCR urea injection to reduce nitrogen oxides. Both engines are equipped with the innovative 48-volt hybrid technology as standard.
In the technology developed in the European Hyundai development center in Rüsselsheim, the more powerful additional circuit supplies a starter generator connected to the crankshaft via a belt. It supports the combustion engine with every acceleration process with an output of up to 12 kW. The necessary energy reserves are provided by a lithium-ion storage battery under the luggage compartment floor with a capacity of 0.44 kWh. It is charged by recuperation with every braking process, when coasting or when driving downhill. The change between drive and charging mode, as well as the smooth interaction of all components, is regulated automatically by intelligent control electronics without the driver having to do anything. In the 7DCT dual clutch transmission, the transmission electronics control this function.

With both engines, the customer can choose between an intelligent six-speed transmission (intelligent manual transmission, iMT) with an electronically controlled clutch (“clutch-by-wire”) or the seven-speed dual clutch transmission 7DCT. The iMT increases fuel efficiency, but at the same time offers the agile shift feeling typical of manual transmissions and has a standard clutch pedal. The electronically controlled clutch of the transmission is integrated into the hybrid drive train. Together with the 48-volt starter generator, which combines the functions of an electric motor and an alternator, the iMT can switch off the engine in ECO driving mode while the vehicle is coasting. The gear remains engaged. In this last selected gear, the engine switches on again with the help of the starter generator, as soon as the driver presses the accelerator pedal or the brake. If the clutch is pressed or if the speed for the selected gear is too low, the engine starts in idle.
