2027 Zeekr 8X

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • In the first half of 2026, the Zeekr 8X will be released as the company's flagship model.

  • A 900V, full-stack, high-voltage hybrid system designed for a specific market is showcased.

  • Its advanced electrical architecture and drivetrain put it at the top of Zeekr's lineup.

Flagship Timing and Strategic Role

The 2027 Zeekr 8X has been confirmed as the brand’s next flagship model, scheduled for launch in the first half of 2026. Its arrival sits within a broader product expansion plan at Geely, where new energy models continue to grow in volume and technical ambition. Zeekr, which delivered 23,852 vehicles in January alone, is now moving decisively toward higher-end, technology-led products designed to elevate both margins and brand perception.

Within that context, the 8X is not positioned as a niche halo car. It is intended as a cornerstone model, one that defines Zeekr’s technical direction while anchoring the lineup above existing offerings.

Platform and High-Voltage Architecture

At the heart of the Zeekr 8X is a full-stack 900V high-voltage power system, described as the first of its kind in the hybrid field. While high-voltage architectures are becoming more common in pure EVs, their application to a hybrid system at this level is significant. It signals a focus on higher efficiency, faster energy transfer, and greater system integration rather than headline performance alone.

Supporting this is what Zeekr describes as the industry’s first 900V power domain intelligent body. In contrast to traditional hybrid arrangements, the wording suggests a tightly integrated electrical and control architecture intended to better regulate power flow, thermal needs, and drivetrain reaction.

Powertrain Hardware and Output

The Zeekr 8X will also debut a self-developed 2.0T electric hybrid-dedicated engine. This unit is designed specifically for electrified operation rather than adapted from an existing combustion platform, reinforcing the idea that the 8X is engineered around hybrid use rather than merely accommodating it.

Power delivery comes through an electric drive transmission with a quoted maximum output of 290kW. While no acceleration figures or vehicle dimensions have been released, the emphasis on drivetrain capability suggests the 8X will sit firmly in the performance-oriented end of the premium hybrid segment, even if outright figures remain unconfirmed at this stage

Positioning Within Zeekr and the Wider Market

The 8X arrives as Zeekr’s most technically ambitious model to date, positioned above the brand’s existing range and aligned with Geely’s broader push into advanced electrification. It also reflects a wider industry shift, where hybrid systems are no longer framed as transitional solutions but as platforms for meaningful innovation.

While rivals in the premium hybrid and electrified SUV space continue to focus on incremental gains, Zeekr appears intent on using voltage architecture and system integration as its differentiators. That approach mirrors Geely’s parallel work on next-generation batteries, high-voltage platforms, and future autonomous capabilities, all of which form the backdrop to the 8X’s development.

What the 8X Represents

The 2027 Zeekr 8X is less about visual theatre and more about technical statement. With its 900V hybrid system, new engine architecture, and high-output electric drivetrain, it reads as a deliberate step forward rather than a cautious evolution. As Zeekr’s flagship, it sets expectations for where the brand is heading, and how seriously it intends to compete at the top end of the electrified market.
