2027 Volkswagen ID.3 GTI

The ID.3 GTI sends 240 kW (326 PS) and 545 Nm to the rear axle, making it the most powerful series production GTI yet.
Volkswagen forecasts 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, with Launch Control standard and top speed electronically limited to 200 km/h.
A 79 kWh net battery provides up to 601 km of forecast range and supports DC charging at up to 183 kW.
The 2027 Volkswagen ID.3 GTI marks a significant change in a badge that has spent five decades attached to combustion-engined performance cars. Revealed on September 16, 2026, the electric hatchback becomes the most powerful series production GTI yet, with 326 PS and rear wheel drive.
Volkswagen describes the car as a near-production concept, with pre-sales scheduled to begin in early 2027. That means its range, acceleration and consumption figures remain forecast values rather than final homologated numbers.
Red Stripe Returns on an Electric GTI
The front carries several familiar GTI cues into the electric era. IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights flank an illuminated VW badge and transparent light strip, while the traditional red GTI stripe runs immediately above it. Vertical LED elements distinguish the electric model, with a gloss black honeycomb intake and splitter lower down.
Its profile changes noticeably from the previous ID.3 GTX. The roof, spoiler and boot lid are now body coloured rather than black, visually lengthening the upper body. Gloss black mirror caps and side members provide contrast.
Wörthersee Wheels Reference GTI History
Standard 20-inch Wörthersee alloy wheels are named after the Austrian location long associated with the GTI enthusiast scene. Volkswagen will offer five exterior colors: Tornado Red, Moonstone Grey, Scale Silver, Grenadilla Black and Glacier White.
Tornado Red carries particular historical weight, having previously appeared on the facelifted first-generation Golf GTI.
Superclark Tartan Returns Inside
The cabin mixes the redesigned ID.3 Neo architecture with more obvious GTI references. Premium sport seats use a Superclark tartan pattern inspired by the original 1976 Golf GTI, while red stitching and a red dashboard stripe continue the theme.
A larger Digital Cockpit sits alongside a 12.9-inch Innovision touchscreen. Physical climate buttons return below the display, and the center console gains a rotary controller for volume and track selection.
Rear Motor Delivers 545 Nm
The rear-mounted electric motor produces 240 kW (326 PS) and 545 Nm. Volkswagen forecasts 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and limits top speed to 200 km/h. Adaptive DCC sports suspension, progressive steering and Launch Control are standard.
GTI mode changes the drivetrain and chassis settings, turns the cabin background lighting red and switches the Digital Cockpit to a dedicated display. It even introduces a combustion-engine sound through the audio system.
The 79 kWh usable battery supports up to 183 kW DC charging, with 10 to 80 percent forecast to take around 29 minutes. Range is quoted at up to 601 km.
