2027 Volkswagen ID. CROSS

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Volkswagen has unveiled the all electric ID. CROSS as a compact SUV built on the new MEB+ platform.

  • Three power outputs, two battery sizes and up to 427 km of WLTP range will be offered.

  • Premium features include Connected Travel Assist, massage seats, a 12.9 inch touchscreen and vehicle to load capability.

Volkswagen's electric SUV family has another member. This time, the focus shifts to buyers who want something compact without giving up the comfort and technology usually associated with larger models.

The 2027 Volkswagen ID. CROSS sits below the brand's bigger electric SUVs, yet it arrives with features that would have seemed ambitious in this class only a few years ago. Built on Volkswagen's latest MEB+ platform, the new model combines practical dimensions with a spacious interior, quick charging and a long equipment list.

Compact Outside, Surprisingly Spacious Inside

The ID. CROSS measures 4,153 mm long, placing it squarely in the compact SUV segment. Thanks to its dedicated electric architecture, Volkswagen has managed to create more usable cabin space than the combustion powered T Cross despite the similar footprint.

Five adults can travel comfortably, while the luggage compartment offers 475 litres of cargo capacity. Storage extends beyond the rear boot, with a 25 litre front trunk providing space for charging cables and smaller items. Under the adjustable load floor, there's even enough room for two beverage crates, a detail that makes everyday use a little easier.

Familiar Volkswagen Design With Modern Details

Volkswagen hasn't gone looking for dramatic styling. Instead, the ID. CROSS follows a clean, restrained approach that should age well.

A long roofline, pronounced C pillar and distinctive lighting signatures give the SUV a confident stance. Buyers choosing higher trim levels can specify IQ.LIGHT matrix LED headlamps, illuminated front and rear Volkswagen badges and three dimensional LED taillights, adding a more premium appearance without changing the overall character.

Inside, the dashboard keeps things simple. A 10.25 inch Digital Cockpit Pro sits ahead of the driver, while a centrally mounted 12.9 inch touchscreen handles infotainment duties. Interestingly, Volkswagen has even included a retro display mode inspired by the original Golf, giving the digital instruments a nostalgic twist.

Electric Power With Everyday Practicality

The ID. CROSS will eventually be available with three electric motor outputs, ranging from 85 kW to 155 kW, alongside battery packs offering 37 kWh or 52 kWh of usable capacity.

The largest battery delivers up to 427 kilometres of WLTP range, while DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 24 minutes. AC charging is rated at 11 kW across the lineup.

Premium Features Reach the Compact Class

Volkswagen has equipped the ID. CROSS with technology that traditionally appeared in larger models.

Available features include Connected Travel Assist with traffic light recognition, adaptive DCC suspension, remote parking through a smartphone, massage front seats, Harman Kardon audio, a panoramic glass roof and vehicle to load capability. The larger battery version can also tow trailers weighing up to 1,200 kg, adding another layer of versatility.

The result is a compact electric SUV that places equal emphasis on comfort, usability and everyday practicality rather than headline performance alone.
