The new Trailhunter package adds factory-installed overlanding hardware including upgraded suspension, all-terrain tires, recovery hooks, and underbody protection.
The 2027 Tundra receives a redesigned front end, updated lighting, and Toyota's latest 14-inch Audio Multimedia system.
Gas twin turbo V6 and hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrains remain available, while pricing will be announced later in 2026.
2027 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter Expands Factory Off Road Lineup
Toyota didn't redesign the Tundra from the ground up for 2027. Instead, it looked at how owners actually use the truck and focused its updates there. The result is a pickup that feels more purposeful, with a cleaner front-end design, a noticeable technology upgrade inside, and, for the first time, a factory-built Trailhunter package aimed at overlanding enthusiasts.
The new package arrives on the SR5 grade, which means buyers no longer have to start with one of the highest trims to get dedicated off-road equipment from the factory.
Built To Leave The Pavement
Trailhunter is more than an appearance package.
Toyota fits Michelin LTX Trail tires, an Old Man Emu suspension, front recovery hooks, additional underbody protection, and a locking rear differential before the truck ever leaves the assembly line. Multi Terrain Select and Crawl Control are also included, giving drivers more confidence when the route becomes rough or unpredictable.
There are visual cues as well, though Toyota hasn't overdone them. Bronze wheels and Trailhunter badging separate the model from the rest of the lineup without changing the truck's overall character. It still looks unmistakably like a Tundra.
Familiar Shape With Sharper Details
Even outside the Trailhunter, the 2027 Tundra gets attention.
CALTY Design Research has reshaped the front end with squarer proportions and a more upright appearance. The grille follows a stronger hexagonal theme, while the bumper incorporates rectangular fog lamps that sit neatly within the overall design. Toyota says the revisions are intended to emphasize capability, but they also give the truck a cleaner face than before.
Lighting receives a practical update too. The grille-mounted LED light bar produces more output than before, available RIGID fog lamps improve visibility, and exposed recovery hooks remain part of the package for buyers heading off road.
The Biggest Changes Are Inside
The cabin is where many owners will notice the updates first.
Every 2027 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter comes with Toyota's latest multimedia system displayed on a standard 14-inch touchscreen. The interface now supports customizable widgets, quicker "Hey Toyota" voice responses, and 5G connectivity where supported. Toyota has also added a built-in Drive Recorder Dash Cam and expanded Digital Key functionality, allowing compatible smartphones to unlock and start the truck through native digital wallet apps.
Hybrid-equipped i-FORCE MAX models continue to offer a 2.4 kW inverter, making it easier to power equipment at a worksite or campsite without carrying a separate generator.
More Choice Without Changing The Formula
Toyota isn't replacing the engines. Buyers will still choose between the twin turbo V6 and the available i-FORCE MAX hybrid, depending on whether everyday utility or additional torque is the priority. The broader lineup also remains intact, spanning work-focused SR models through Capstone, with the new Trailhunter sitting alongside TRD Pro as another factory-developed off-road option.
Pricing and full specifications have yet to be released, with Toyota confirming that more details will arrive in fall 2026. For now, the updates suggest the company has concentrated on the areas owners interact with most, refining capability, improving everyday technology, and making a dedicated overlanding Tundra available straight from the showroom.
