2027 Toyota Crown Refines Its Hybrid Formula
The 2027 Toyota Crown still occupies a space of its own. It isn't a conventional luxury sedan, nor does it fully commit to being an SUV. Instead, Toyota continues to develop the elevated fastback sedan that has become one of the brand's more distinctive offerings.
For 2027, the changes are evolutionary rather than dramatic. The Crown receives updated hybrid technology, a handful of styling revisions and several new equipment upgrades across the lineup. None of them alter the car's identity, but together they give Toyota's flagship hybrid sedan a fresher feel.
Sharper Details Across The Lineup
The overall silhouette remains familiar, with its raised ride height, sweeping roofline and hammerhead-inspired front fascia.
Toyota has concentrated on the finer details instead. A newly sculpted rear bumper gives the car a cleaner finish, while revised Satin-finished HEV and AWD badges subtly modernise the exterior. Buyers also have a broader colour palette to choose from, including the new Inked black paint alongside Oxygen White, Bronze Age, Heavy Metal, Finish Line Red and Storm Cloud.
The Platinum grade receives several exclusive touches. Red brake calipers, black window surrounds and a revised bi-tone finish with a body-coloured trunk add more visual contrast, while the Nightshade edition continues its darker theme with new black badge overlays.
A Familiar Cabin With New Colour Choices
Inside, Toyota has focused on refinement rather than redesign.
Limited models now offer full Saddle Tan seating, while Platinum buyers can also choose the same interior finish. The new trim can be paired with the Bronze Age exterior colour, creating one of the more distinctive combinations available across the range.
The cabin continues with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a matching 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen. Heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging and multiple USB-C ports remain standard, while higher grades add a panoramic moonroof, Panoramic View Monitor and Head-Up Display.
Updated Hybrid Technology Takes Centre Stage
The biggest mechanical update arrives beneath the bodywork.
XLE, Limited and Nightshade grades now use Toyota's fifth-generation Hybrid System (THS 5), pairing a 2.5-litre engine with front and rear electric motors. Toyota estimates a combined 40 mpg, while electronic on-demand all-wheel drive remains standard. Paddle shifters are also introduced across these grades for 2027.
Drivers looking for more performance can still opt for the Platinum grade, where the Hybrid MAX system combines a turbocharged 2.4-litre engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. The setup develops 340 net combined horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, supported by full-time electronic all-wheel drive, adaptive suspension and dynamic rear steering.
Premium Positioning Continues
Every 2027 Toyota Crown comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a comprehensive suite of connected services. Four grades remain available: XLE, Nightshade, Limited and Platinum, with pricing beginning at $41,640 and rising to $55,190 before destination charges. Built at Toyota's Tsutsumi Plant in Japan, the updated Crown continues to offer buyers an alternative to traditional luxury sedans while keeping hybrid efficiency at the centre of the experience.
