2027 Tata Motors Tiago EV

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Tata previews heavily updated Tiago and Tiago EV ahead of May 28 reveal.
  • Hatchback gains redesigned front fascia, new taillights and upgraded cabin tech.
  • Expected safety upgrades include six airbags and a possible 360-degree camera.

Tata Gives The Tiago EV A Sharper Identity

The 2027 Tata Motors Tiago EV arrives with what Tata describes as a new-generation update, although the reality feels closer to a deeply reworked facelift rather than an entirely new car.

Still, the visual changes are extensive enough that the compact hatchback now carries a noticeably more mature presence on the road.

Originally launched in 2016 and refreshed once before in 2020, the Tiago has steadily evolved into one of India’s better-known budget urban hatchbacks. This latest revision appears aimed at keeping the model competitive as buyer expectations around design, safety and in-car technology continue rising rapidly across the entry-level segment.

Tata has confirmed both internal combustion and fully electric versions will return, with the Tiago EV remaining visually close to its petrol sibling.

European Inspired Styling Shapes The Exterior

The biggest transformation happens at the front.

The updated Tiago adopts slimmer headlamps, a cleaner grille treatment and interconnected lower bumper intakes that give the hatchback a wider visual stance than before.

Some of the detailing feels influenced by modern European superminis, particularly cars like the Opel Corsa, though the proportions remain unmistakably compact and city-focused.

The EV version separates itself mainly through body-coloured trim and revised bumper detailing. Otherwise, Tata appears to have intentionally kept the petrol and electric models visually aligned.

Along the sides, the familiar roofline and compact dimensions remain largely unchanged, but fresh cladding around the wheel arches and added black trim near the C-pillar help modernise the overall profile. New 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels contribute most of the visual lift.

At the rear, slimmer full-width taillights and a redesigned bumper make the hatchback appear broader than the outgoing version. Tata also relocated the reverse light lower into the bumper assembly.

Cabin Expected To Receive Major Technology Upgrades

Tata has not yet fully revealed the interior, though several upgrades appear likely based on teaser footage and existing market reports.

The dashboard introduced during the 2025 update already featured a 10.25-inch infotainment display, and reports suggest the revised model could add a digital instrument cluster alongside redesigned seats with integrated headrests.

Mirror-mounted cameras also hint at the addition of a 360-degree camera system borrowed from the facelifted Tata Punch.

Safety equipment may improve substantially as well, with local reports expecting six airbags to become standard instead of the current dual-airbag setup.

Familiar Powertrains Likely To Continue

Technical specifications remain officially undisclosed for now.

Reports suggest Tata will retain the current naturally aspirated 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 85 hp, while the CNG version should continue with 75 hp.

The Tiago EV is also expected to continue offering multiple battery and range configurations. [Speculation]

Pricing will be announced during the official market launch on May 28, though the updated models may sit slightly above the outgoing versions due to the broader equipment upgrades.
