A bigger step into electric SUVs
The 2027 Subaru Getaway moves the brand into a space it hasn’t fully explored before. A three-row, all-electric SUV with real power behind it.
Revealed in New York, it becomes Subaru’s most powerful production model so far. It’s also one of its most practical EVs, built around family use rather than just urban driving. That combination sets the tone early. This isn’t just about electrification. It’s about scale.
Design leans toward function with subtle identity
From the outside, the Getaway keeps things relatively straightforward. The front carries Subaru’s latest lighting signature, including an illuminated six-star badge and dynamic daytime running lights. It’s recognizable, but not overly styled.
Along the sides, the body lines are clean, with flush door handles helping keep things tidy. Roof rails sit on top, hinting at its intended use beyond city driving.
At the rear, the lighting stretches across with a three-dimensional illuminated Subaru logo. It’s a detail that becomes more noticeable at night than during the day. Wheel sizes range between 19 and 20 inches depending on trim, but the overall shape stays consistent — upright, practical, and clearly built around space.
Proportions built around three rows
The Getaway’s size defines how it works. It’s a full three-row SUV, offering seating for up to seven. Depending on trim, the second row can be configured with captain’s chairs, reducing it to six seats but improving access and comfort.
What stands out is usability. Even taller passengers can fit across all three rows without feeling cramped, which isn’t always the case in this segment.
Cargo space follows the same idea. With the third row folded, there’s around 45.6 cubic feet available. Even with all seats up, there’s still usable space behind the third row.
Interior focuses on everyday practicality
Inside, the Getaway doesn’t try to overwhelm.
The layout is clean and familiar, centered around a 14-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with multiple USB-C ports across all rows.
There’s also a focus on comfort. Three-zone climate control, dedicated vents for the third row, and available heated and ventilated seating across multiple rows all point toward long-distance usability.
Storage is handled well too. Cup holders and bottle holders are available for every passenger, which sounds simple but matters in real use.
Powertrain delivers more than expected
The Getaway runs a dual-motor setup, delivering a combined 420 horsepower. That’s enough to push it from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds, which is quick for something this size.
Power is sent through Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, paired with 8.3 inches of ground clearance and the X-MODE Dual-Mode system for off-road conditions.
Range is estimated at over 300 miles, supported by a 95.8 kWh battery. Charging uses a NACS-compatible port, with speeds up to 150 kW allowing a 10–80% charge in around 30 minutes. A standard-range version with a smaller battery is expected later. Details remain limited. [Unverified]
Built to handle more than just city driving
The Getaway isn’t limited to paved roads. It’s rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds, and features like Grip Control and Downhill Assist support off-road use.
At the same time, systems like EyeSight driver assistance, adaptive cruise control, and traffic jam assist keep it usable in everyday driving.
Positioned as Subaru’s most complete EV yet
The 2027 Subaru Getaway doesn’t try to be niche. It sits as a full-size, family-focused EV with performance, range, and capability built in. That’s not something Subaru has offered before.
It’s not a radical shift in design. But in terms of what it delivers, it’s a clear step forward.
