2027 Porsche 911 GT4 R 992 ll

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • First Porsche GT4 customer race car based on the 911 platform.

  • New 4.0-litre flat-six produces up to 520 PS before Balance of Performance adjustments.

  • Lightweight natural-fibre composite panels and race-developed electronics enhance performance.

Porsche gives its GT4 programme a new direction

The 2027 Porsche 911 GT4 R marks a significant shift for Porsche Motorsport. After years of building GT4 customer race cars around the Cayman platform, the company has moved its global GT4 programme onto the iconic 911 for the first time. It's a notable change, and one that reflects how important GT4 racing has become for both aspiring drivers and customer teams around the world.

The new car is scheduled to make its competitive debut during the 2027 motorsport season, expanding Porsche's customer racing portfolio while offering teams another option above the existing Cayman-based models.

Familiar 911 shape with race-focused engineering

Visually, the 911 GT4 R remains unmistakably part of the 911 family. Its proportions are inherited from the current 992.2-generation 911 GT3 Cup car, although Porsche has tailored the bodywork to meet GT4 regulations rather than simply carrying over Cup-spec components.

Aerodynamic revisions include a manually adjustable rear wing with eleven settings, allowing teams to fine-tune the car for different circuits. Porsche has also incorporated natural-fibre-reinforced composite materials into the doors, engine cover and aerodynamic components, reducing weight while maintaining the durability expected from an endurance race car.

The result is a machine that still looks every bit like a 911, but one developed specifically for customer motorsport rather than road use.

Race-ready cockpit built around the driver

Inside, the focus is exactly where it should be. A 10.3-inch colour display presents essential vehicle information without unnecessary distraction, while an integrated data logger and high-precision GPS system allow teams to analyse performance after every session.

Porsche has also engineered the chassis with flexibility in mind. Dual-adjustable dampers, three spring-rate options and removable ballast components give engineers plenty of scope to tailor the setup to different circuits and Balance of Performance requirements.

Flat-six power comes straight from Porsche racing

At the heart of the 2027 Porsche 911 GT4 R is a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine derived from the current 911 GT3. In unrestricted form it produces up to 382 kW (520 PS) and 470 Nm of torque.

Like all GT4 race cars, output is adjusted through Balance of Performance regulations. Porsche delivers the car with 53.7 mm air restrictors installed, reducing output to 316 kW (430 PS) before series-specific BoP adjustments are applied.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a sequential six-speed dog gearbox operated by steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and paired with a four-disc racing clutch.

Built for customer teams worldwide

GT4 has evolved into one of the fastest-growing categories in international customer motorsport, offering a competitive stepping stone between entry-level racing and GT3 competition. Porsche believes the new 911 GT4 R will strengthen its position in that market while giving customer teams a more powerful and technically advanced alternative to previous Cayman-based GT4 models.

With wider tracks, updated electronics and proven 911 race-car foundations, the 2027 Porsche 911 GT4 R represents a new chapter in Porsche's customer racing programme, one that is expected to take to circuits around the world from the 2027 season onward.
