By Lorenzo Bianchi October 14, 2026
The 2027 Opel Astra Start joins the compact car lineup as a more affordable entry-level variant, with German prices starting at €31,890 for the five-door hatchback and €33,390 for the Sports Tourer.
Standard equipment includes Denim Blue Metallic paint, six-way adjustable Intelli-Seats, automatic climate control, dual 10-inch screens and front and rear parking sensors.
Buyers can choose a 145 hp hybrid, a 130 hp diesel or a 156 hp electric version, with the Astra Electric Start priced from €36,490.
Opel Astra Start Brings Lower Prices to the Compact Range
The 2027 Opel Astra Start has been introduced as a new entry-level version of the German manufacturer's compact car, making the recently updated Astra more affordable without stripping away its everyday equipment.
Announced alongside the Astra's appearance at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the Start trim becomes the new starting point for both the five-door hatchback and Sports Tourer estate.
In Germany, prices begin at €31,890 for the hatchback, a reduction of €1,500 compared with the previous entry-level version. The Sports Tourer starts at €33,390, while the electric model has become €1,900 cheaper.
The changes are largely about equipment and pricing rather than introducing another exterior redesign.
Denim Blue Metallic Becomes the Standard Paint Finish
One of the more noticeable additions is Denim Blue Metallic, a new colour introduced with the Astra Start.
Unlike many entry-level models that reserve metallic paint for the options list, Opel includes this finish as standard equipment.
The shade has a relatively restrained appearance, fitting the Astra's existing bodywork without drawing attention to additional exterior decoration.
The Start trim is available with the familiar five-door hatchback body, while buyers needing extra luggage space can choose the Sports Tourer.
Opel has not announced changes to exterior dimensions, body panels or wheel specifications for this version.
Intelli-Seats and Dual 10 Inch Displays as Standard
Inside, the Astra Start retains a practical equipment package.
Both front occupants receive six-way adjustable Intelli-Seats, which use a central recess in the seat cushion to reduce pressure during longer journeys.
Automatic climate control is standard, as are front and rear parking sensors.
The dashboard combines a customisable 10-inch digital instrument display with a second 10-inch touchscreen for multimedia functions.
Keyless Start is also included, allowing the driver to start the vehicle without inserting a conventional key.
For additional comfort, Opel offers an optional Start Comfort Pack with Solar Protect glazing, an automatically dimming rear-view mirror and a centre armrest. Sports Tourer buyers can also add roof rails.
Hybrid, Diesel and Electric Powertrains
The Astra Start range includes three powertrain choices.
The 145 hp hybrid produces 230 Nm of torque and uses a six-speed electrified dual-clutch transmission.
A 1.5-litre diesel producing 130 hp is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The Astra Electric Start develops 156 hp and 270 Nm, with vehicle-to-load functionality available through an accessory adapter.
According to Opel's published WLTP figures, the hybrid range consumes between 4.7 and 5.1 litres per 100 km, while the electric versions use 14.7 to 15.8 kWh per 100 km.
German Pricing and Entry Level Market Positioning
The Astra Start forms part of Opel's wider effort to introduce more accessible trim levels across its model range, following similar changes to the Frontera and Combo.
German prices start at €31,890 for the hybrid hatchback, €33,390 for the Sports Tourer and €36,490 for the Astra Electric Start.
These figures include German VAT.
Rather than reducing the Astra to its most basic equipment, Opel has retained comfort and connectivity features while lowering the initial purchase price, giving the compact model a more accessible position within the range.
