The Australian Pajero range includes GLS, EXCEED and GSR grades, with five or seven seats depending on specification.
Its 2.4 litre 4N16 turbo diesel produces 150kW and 480Nm, paired with an eight speed automatic and low range 4WD.
Australian pricing starts at $68,490 before on road costs, with showroom arrivals scheduled for December 2026.
The 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero Australian Version brings one of Mitsubishi's best known names back to local showrooms after a lengthy absence. For Australia, the formula is deliberately familiar: diesel power, proper low range four wheel drive, substantial towing ability and room for up to seven occupants.
There is more technology this time, and considerably more polish. Yet Mitsubishi has kept the new Pajero positioned as a frame based SUV rather than shifting the nameplate toward a softer crossover format.
Boxy Proportions Reference Earlier Pajeros
Designed in Japan under the “Grand Charisma” theme, the new Pajero carries a tall, upright shape with strong horizontal surfacing. A T shaped LED lighting signature gives the nose its main visual identity, while GSR versions add Dynamic Flow Light animations.
There are smaller heritage references too. The C pillar is shaped to recall the first generation Pajero's roll bar, while a pronounced centre edge along the bonnet is intended to improve forward visibility.
GSR receives darker exterior detailing, a black panoramic roof and black 20 inch alloy wheels. EXCEED instead uses 20 inch machined alloys, while GLS runs 18 inch dark grey wheels with 255/65R18 mud and snow tyres.
Cabin Offers Five or Seven Seats
GLS buyers can choose five or seven seats, while EXCEED and GSR are seven seat models. The second row slides through 150mm, helping balance legroom between the rear rows, and luggage capacity reaches 519 litres with the third row folded.
Screen sizes vary by grade. GLS receives 12.3 inch displays, while EXCEED and GSR move to 14.3 inch units. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
2.4 Litre Diesel Produces 480Nm
Power comes from the latest 4N16 2.4 litre turbo diesel. A variable geometry turbocharger helps it produce 150kW and 480Nm, sent through a lighter eight speed automatic with a wider ratio spread.
More important for the Pajero badge is the drivetrain. Super Select II provides 2H, 4H, locked centre differential and low range settings. A rear differential lock is standard, while Super All Wheel Control, Active Yaw Control and seven drive modes extend its terrain management capability.
Pajero Returns as Mitsubishi's Flagship
The chassis remains frame based, with wider tracks, long travel suspension and a structure Mitsubishi says is significantly stiffer than the Pajero Sport's. Braked towing capacity is 3.5 tonnes, supported by Trailer Load Assist.
Pricing starts at $68,490 for the five seat GLS and $69,990 for the seven seater. EXCEED costs $79,990, while GSR tops the Australian range at $84,990, all before on road costs. Mitsubishi says more than 3,000 pre registrations have already been received ahead of December 2026 showroom arrivals.
