2027 MG S6 EV

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • MG launches the MGS6 EV in Australia with RWD and AWD variants
  • Dual-motor AWD version delivers 266kW and 0–100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
  • Family-focused cabin includes up to 1,690 litres of cargo capacity.

MG Expands Its Electric SUV Lineup

The 2027 MG S6 EV arrives as the brand’s latest push into the increasingly crowded electric SUV segment, though MG seems less interested in chasing flashy statements than broad everyday usability.

Positioned as a premium mid-size electric SUV for Australian buyers, the MGS6 EV enters the market with two variants: the Essence RWD priced from $49,990 driveaway and the more powerful Essence AWD from $56,990 driveaway.

MG describes the vehicle as a family-oriented EV designed for commuting, school runs and longer weekend trips. That intention shows clearly in the packaging and proportions.

At 4708 mm long and over 1900 mm wide, the MGS6 EV sits with a planted stance that gives it more road presence than some of MG’s smaller crossover offerings.

Clean Exterior Keeps Things Conservative

Unlike some newer EVs chasing aggressive futurism, the MGS6 EV takes a more restrained approach visually.

The bodywork is relatively clean, with subtle aerodynamic detailing rather than exaggerated sculpting. Large 20-inch alloy wheels with low-wind-resistance caps help visually fill the arches without making the SUV appear overly heavy.

From the press imagery, the proportions appear balanced rather than dramatic. The roofline remains practical, rear visibility looks usable and the overall shape leans closer to contemporary European SUVs than to some of the sharper Chinese-market EV designs currently appearing elsewhere.

MG also pairs the platform with MacPherson front suspension and a multi-link rear setup aimed at maintaining comfort during longer family trips.

Dual Motor AWD Adds Serious Pace

The biggest surprise may be the available performance.

The flagship MGS6 EV Essence AWD uses a dual-motor setup producing a combined 266kW, enough for a claimed 0–100 km/h sprint in 5.1 seconds.

That puts it comfortably into performance SUV territory despite the vehicle’s family-oriented positioning.

The rear-wheel-drive version produces 180kW and reaches 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, which still feels more than adequate for everyday driving.

Range figures are competitive too. MG claims up to 530 km WLTP range for the RWD model and 485 km for the AWD variant. Rapid charging capability allows a 10 to 80 percent recharge in 38 minutes using a 150kW DC charger.

Both versions also receive a heat pump, One Pedal Mode and adjustable regenerative braking systems.

Cabin Focuses On Space And Everyday Comfort

Inside, the MGS6 EV leans heavily into comfort and storage flexibility.

The cabin features vegan leather seating with suede upholstery accents, heated and ventilated front seats, heated outer rear seats and an 11-speaker audio system with subwoofer.

A 12.8-inch central touchscreen and 10.25-inch driver display dominate the dashboard layout, supported by wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a 50W wireless charging pad.

Practicality appears to have received equal attention. The SUV offers a 581-litre rear cargo area alongside a front storage compartment measuring either 86 litres or 67 litres depending on drivetrain choice. Fold the rear seats flat and total storage expands to 1,690 litres.

For MG, the MGS6 EV looks less like a halo product and more like an attempt to cover every major EV segment at once.
