2027 MG 07

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • MG 07 will offer both pure electric and hybrid powertrain options.

  • Coupe-style body features long-wheelbase proportions and a panoramic glass roof design.

  • New driver-assistance system uses lidar and the Momenta R7 enhanced world model.

MG Pushes Further Into The New Energy Coupe Segment

The 2027 MG 07 feels like an important car for MG, even before full specifications have been released.

Positioned as a new-energy coupe built on an entirely new platform, the model appears designed to move the brand further into the premium end of China’s increasingly crowded EV market. Official information suggests pricing will fall between 150,000 and 200,000 yuan, placing it directly against a growing wave of technology-heavy electric sedans and fastbacks already fighting for attention.

Visually, the MG 07 leans heavily into coupe-inspired proportions. The front end sits low and smooth, with slim C-shaped headlights that contain multiple lighting elements within each housing. The lower bumper uses a continuous intake design that stretches across the width of the car, helping the nose appear wider than it probably is in person.

It is a clean shape overall. Not overly aggressive, but definitely aiming for a younger audience than MG’s more conventional sedans.

Long Wheelbase Gives The Car A Lower Profile

The side profile is probably the strongest angle.

MG gives the 07 short overhangs, a long wheelbase, and a roofline that gradually tapers toward the rear. Combined with the semi-concealed door handles and large wheels, the proportions end up looking much more expensive than the expected price point might suggest.

There is also a slight resemblance to larger premium electric fastbacks already popular in China, though the MG keeps a softer and less complicated surface treatment overall. [Inference]

At the rear, the roof flows directly into the rear glass and panoramic sunroof section without a clear visual break. That gives the car a more fluid appearance from certain angles, especially when viewed in the official Morelo Purple launch color.

The full-width taillight treatment continues the increasingly familiar EV design trend, though MG integrates it fairly cleanly into the rear bodywork without excessive layering or fake vent details.

Lidar and AI Driving Tech Become Central Features

Technology appears to be one of the MG 07’s main selling points.

The car will feature a lidar-based driver-assistance system using the Momenta R7 enhanced world model together with MG’s self-developed X7 large-model chip. Exact functionality levels have not yet been detailed, but the hardware setup strongly suggests MG is targeting higher-end intelligent driving capabilities rather than basic lane assistance alone. [Inference]

The company also confirmed that both pure-electric and hybrid variants will be offered. Detailed battery specifications, motor outputs, and performance figures remain undisclosed for now. [Unverified]

Positioned Between Mainstream and Premium EVs

The interesting thing about the MG 07 is where it seems to sit in the market.

It is clearly more ambitious than a traditional mainstream sedan, but it also stops short of the ultra-minimalist luxury approach used by some premium EV startups. Instead, MG appears to be aiming for a middle ground where design, technology, and affordability overlap.

If pricing stays close to the announced range, the MG 07 could end up becoming one of the more accessible lidar-equipped electric coupes in the segment once it officially launches later this year.
