The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 introduces a redesigned illuminated grille, updated lighting, and new exterior finishes.

The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 doesn't arrive with a dramatic redesign, and that seems intentional. Mercedes-Maybach has instead focused on refining an SUV that already sits at the very top of its lineup. The familiar shape remains, but almost every area has been revisited, from the front fascia and cabin technology to the powertrain and suspension.
This update also marks an important year for the brand. As Mercedes-Benz celebrates 140 years of the automobile and Maybach reaches its 105th anniversary, the refreshed GLS becomes the latest expression of the company's flagship luxury SUV. Customer deliveries begin with China before expanding to Europe and the United States.
Small Design Changes Make A Big Difference
At first glance, the changes appear subtle. Look closer and there is quite a bit going on.
The signature Maybach grille has been redesigned with an illuminated surround, while the MAYBACH script now lights up within the grille itself. In selected markets, even the upright bonnet star can be illuminated. The headlamps feature rose-gold detailing, and a revised front bumper gives the SUV a slightly stronger visual presence without changing its overall character.
The rear has also been cleaned up with a redesigned tailgate panel linking the updated taillights, each featuring three-dimensional star graphics framed in chrome. Mercedes-Maybach has also expanded its color palette with new finishes, including a dark petrol and verde silver two-tone combination.
The Cabin Feels Even More Exclusive
The biggest improvements are found inside.
A redesigned dashboard now houses the latest MBUX Superscreen, complete with Maybach-specific graphics finished in rose-gold accents. The illuminated air vents blend into the dashboard, while the newest MBUX Virtual Assistant brings support from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing Search, and Google Gemini for more natural conversations and smarter navigation.
Comfort has also moved another step forward. The front seats receive a new vibration massage function, while rear Executive Seats now massage the calves as well. Fresh Nappa leather combinations, new wood and fabric trims, an upgraded 15-speaker Burmester 3D Surround Sound system, and additional sound insulation all contribute to a noticeably quieter cabin. Even the refrigerated compartment between the rear seats remains part of the experience for passengers who prefer to travel in the back.
More Power With Less Effort
Under the bonnet sits an updated electrified 4.0 litre twin turbocharged V8 paired with a 48 volt mild hybrid system. Total output reaches 450 kW, supplemented by a 17 kW boost from the integrated starter generator, while peak torque climbs to 850 Nm.
The revisions are about more than outright performance. Mercedes-Maybach has worked to reduce vibration, sharpen throttle response, and make power delivery feel smoother during everyday driving. A revised steering system promises greater precision, while the standard AIRMATIC suspension and available E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL continuously adapt to changing road conditions, even allowing the SUV to lean into corners to reduce lateral forces for passengers.
Technology That Works Quietly In The Background
The GLS now runs on MB.OS, giving owners access to over-the-air updates and a more personalized digital experience over time. Driver assistance has also been expanded with MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO, while upgraded parking technology can identify more parking spaces and even retrace the previous 150 metres when reversing.
The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 is less about dramatic change and more about careful refinement. It builds on an already established formula with thoughtful improvements that owners are likely to appreciate every time they step inside, whether that's the quieter cabin, richer materials, or the smoother way it delivers its performance.
