2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe C167

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Revised design with illuminated grille and updated lighting signature.

  • New MB.OS system with full-width MBUX Superscreen.

  • Plug-in hybrid offers over 100 km of electric driving range.

Still a GLE Coupe, just with more going on underneath

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe doesn’t try to rewrite the formula. It stays close to what it has always been, but adds a layer of tech and refinement that’s hard to miss once you spend time around it.

At a glance, the shape is familiar. Long hood, sloping roofline, and that coupe-style rear that trades a bit of space for a cleaner silhouette. What’s different sits in the details — and more importantly, in what’s happening beneath the surface.

This update feels less about appearance and more about how the car works day to day.

Front end picks up more presence without overdoing it

Most of the visual changes are concentrated at the front.

The grille is larger now, framed in chrome, and in some markets it lights up. It’s not something you notice immediately in daylight, but it changes the way the car looks after dark. The headlamps are now tied together visually through a dark panel, giving the front a wider, more settled look.

The DIGITAL LIGHT system has also been updated. It throws a wider, brighter beam and reaches further down the road, though the change is something you feel more than see.

At the rear, the taillights carry star-shaped elements, which is a small detail but one that links it back to the rest of the lineup.

Proportions stay the same, and that’s intentional

The GLE Coupe doesn’t chase practicality in the same way as the regular SUV.

It’s slightly shorter in wheelbase and lower in roofline, which gives it a more planted stance. From the side, the rear section feels heavier, with the bodywork sitting over the rear wheels in a way that emphasizes its width.

There’s less headroom in the back compared to the standard GLE, but that’s part of the trade-off.

This version is more about how it looks and feels than how much it can carry.

Cabin shifts toward a more digital setup

Inside, the change is easier to spot.

The MBUX Superscreen stretches across the dashboard, combining three displays into one continuous glass surface. It’s not just for show. It’s tied into the new MB.OS system, which manages everything from navigation to vehicle settings.

The system also brings in a more advanced voice assistant. It can handle longer, more natural conversations, which sounds small, but changes how you interact with the car over time.

Around it, the cabin gets subtle updates. New trims, revised vents, and materials like ARTICO give it a slightly fresher feel without changing the overall layout.

Electrified engines change how it drives day to day

Under the hood, the shift is gradual rather than dramatic.

Electrified powertrains take a bigger role now, especially the plug-in hybrid, which can cover over 100 kilometers on electric power alone.

That makes a difference in daily use. Short drives can be done without the engine starting at all, while longer trips still rely on the full hybrid system.

The focus isn’t on numbers. It’s on making the car quieter and smoother in normal driving.

Suspension does more work than you notice

Ride comfort remains a priority.

E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL adjusts each wheel individually, reacting to the road in real time. It can even prepare for bumps ahead using cloud-based data, softening the impact before you reach them.

The effect is subtle. The car doesn’t feel soft, just controlled.

Still sits in its own space

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe isn’t trying to compete directly with traditional SUVs.

It sits slightly off to the side. More design-focused, a bit less practical, but still usable every day.

What this update does is add depth to that idea. More technology, more refinement, and a clearer move toward electrification.

It still feels like a GLE Coupe. Just a more complete one.
