Standard AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive is joined by an optional electronically controlled limited-slip differential and Drift Mode, a first for an AMG SUV.

Mercedes-AMG is giving the GLC 53 a mechanical once-over rather than a styling refresh, and the changes center almost entirely on the engine bay. The 2027 GLC 53 arrives at US dealerships in the second half of 2026, offered in both SUV and Coupe body styles.
Powertrain and Performance
The 3.0-litre inline-six at the heart of the car has been comprehensively redeveloped rather than simply retuned. AMG fitted a new cylinder head with reworked intake and exhaust ports, a new intake camshaft, a larger-volume intake system and a new intercooler — changes the automaker says sharpen throttle response and improve torque delivery across the rev range. The exhaust gas turbocharger now runs 21.8 psi of boost, and the electric auxiliary compressor's output climbs from 7hp to 10hp while operating for longer stretches. Combined output lands at 443hp and 443lb-ft, with 472lb-ft available for up to 10 seconds under overboost. A second-generation integrated starter-generator, built into the transmission bell housing, adds 23hp and 151lb-ft of its own mild-hybrid support, along with recuperation and load-point shifting. With RACE START engaged, Mercedes-AMG quotes a 4.0-second 0-60mph time. Top speed is electronically limited to 155mph, rising to 167mph with the optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package.
Handling and Drivetrain
Power routes through an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and standard AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, which shifts torque distribution based on driving situation and biases toward the rear axle once ESP is set to Sport. The DYNAMIC PLUS Package adds an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential and Drift Mode — the first time Drift Mode has been offered on an AMG SUV — which locks the car into rear-wheel drive exclusively. A three-stage AMG parameter steering system adjusts assistance by drive mode, and standard rear-axle steering turns up to 2.5 degrees opposite the front wheels at low speed for tighter turning, switching to parallel steering above 60mph for stability.
Exterior Design
Mercedes-AMG isn't detailing major body changes here, focusing instead on the optional Golden Accents Package, sold exclusively for model year 2027. It pairs Obsidian Black Metallic or Graphite Grey Magno paint with Techgold-finished details and subtle AMG graphics along the body. Matte black 21-inch AMG Forged Cross-Spoke wheels get Techgold rim flanges and center caps, alongside black brake calipers with white AMG branding and elements borrowed from the AMG Performance Studio Package, including a larger front splitter and high-gloss black diffuser blade
Interior Space and Technology
Inside, the Golden Accents Package brings black leather AMG sports seats with contrasting bolsters and stitching that extends to the door panels, dashboard and floor mats, plus carbon-fibre trim woven with Techgold metallic threads and illuminated door sill panels.
Practical Usability
Standard AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension uses a newly tuned steel coil spring setup with adaptive damping across Comfort, Sport and Sport+ settings, aiming to widen the gap between everyday comfort and dynamic handling without requiring a different suspension hardware setup.
Market Positioning
Mercedes-AMG frames the GLC 53 update as sharpening the model's "Affalterbach DNA" within its performance SUV lineup, timed alongside Mercedes-Benz's wider 140th anniversary celebrations in 2026.
