2027 Mercedes-Benz GLA H247

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The new GLA is orderable in Germany from 30th July 2026, priced from €40,840 (excl. VAT) for the GLA 200 electric, with market launch following in November.

  • The electric GLA offers up to 657km of WLTP range and 800-volt charging capable of adding up to 270km in ten minutes; a hybrid variant with a 1.5-litre turbo engine and 48-volt system follows in early 2027, alongside a fourth electric model with a 71kWh battery.

  • The redesigned cabin features an optional full-width MBUX Superscreen, a Google Maps-based navigation system, and an MBUX Virtual Assistant combining ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini.

A Naming Note and a Timing Nuance

The source press release doesn't reference an "H247" chassis designation anywhere, so that part of the target naming isn't confirmed here. On timing, the picture is mixed rather than simply wrong: the three electric GLA variants covered in this release are orderable from 30th July 2026 with market launch in November, which the source implies is still 2026. However, the release does confirm that a hybrid GLA and a fourth electric variant with a 71kWh battery both arrive "early 2027," so the 2027 framing genuinely applies to part of the lineup, just not the initial launch models.

A Lower, Sportier Stance

Mercedes describes the new GLA's silhouette as lower and more self-assured than its predecessor, dropping 20mm in height while gaining 61mm of wheelbase. Wider rear track, more pronounced shoulder lines, and flush-mounted 18-to-20-inch wheels reinforce what the brand calls a planted, adventure-ready stance. The GLA also introduces an illuminated iconic grille to Mercedes' compact segment for the first time, featuring 608 backlit polycarbonate points and 158 micro-LEDs that can sync lighting sequences to selected sound themes.

A Redesigned, Tech-Forward Cabin

Inside, the redesigned interior replaces the previous sculptural design language with what Mercedes calls a clearer, more reduced approach. The optional MBUX Superscreen spans the dashboard, integrating a 10.25-inch driver display with two 14-inch screens for the center and front passenger. A floating center console adds wireless charging and a double cup holder, while the standard panoramic roof — with an optional SKY CONTROL segmented glass roof featuring 172 illuminated "stars" — is designed to boost the sense of space.

Range, Charging and a Coming Hybrid

At launch, buyers choose between three electric models: the 165 kW GLA 200 with a 58kWh LFP battery, the 200 kW GLA 250+, and the 260 kW GLA 350 4MATIC, which hits 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. Both higher-output models use an 85kWh NMC battery. Range tops out at 657km WLTP, with 800-volt architecture enabling up to 270km of charge in ten minutes at up to 320 kW. The hybrid variant arriving in early 2027 pairs a newly developed 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder with a 48-volt, 1.3kWh electric system integrated into an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Space, Practicality and Positioning

Cargo capacity grows to 410 liters, or 1,400 liters with rear seats folded, plus a 107-liter front trunk on electric models. 4MATIC variants can tow up to two tonnes. The release doesn't name direct rival vehicles, so competitive positioning against other compact premium SUVs isn't addressed in the source material. Mercedes frames the GLA as its best-selling compact model, aiming to make it more desirable through added space and refinement.
