2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class W206

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Mercedes-Benz calls this the most comprehensive technical update in C-Class history, covering exterior design, cabin technology and the full combustion, diesel and plug-in hybrid engine lineup.

  • The plug-in hybrid C 400 e 4MATIC delivers a system output of up to 290 kW (395 hp) and up to 100 km of electric range (WLTP) from a 19.53 kWh battery.

  • Ordering opens 18 August 2026, with German pricing starting at €41,045 excluding VAT (€48,844 including VAT) for the C 200 Saloon.

A More Confident Face on a Familiar Shape

Mercedes-Benz isn't touching the C-Class's basic proportions with this update, but it has reworked nearly everything around the edges. The most obvious change is up front: a new radiator grille with a stronger vertical emphasis, hot-stamped chrome stars, and — for the first time on this car — an integrated LED light guide that lights up the surround. Headlamps and, on the saloon, taillights pick up a star-shaped graphic, and depending on market, the central star itself can illuminate too. It's a lot of new lighting hardware for what is otherwise a familiar silhouette.

Small Touches Add Up at the Curb

Mercedes has also worked in a few theatrical details that weren't there before. A light projector built into the side sills throws a Mercedes-Benz pattern onto the ground when the doors open, and the exterior mirrors project a star alongside the car. Bumpers get more sculpted, voluminous surfacing, with high-gloss black inserts and chrome trim at the sides. Wheel options span 17 to 19 inches, including a new 18-inch design and two 19-inch AMG wheels, and two new paint colors — lavender silver metallic and a blue-grey "moody sky grey metallic" — join the palette.

Cabin Technology Leans Hard Into AI

Inside, the C-Class carries over its 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch portrait touchscreen, but the software running on them has changed considerably. The fourth-generation MBUX system now pulls from multiple AI models — Mercedes names ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini — switching between them depending on what's being asked. It can hold multi-part conversations, retain short-term context, and handle tasks well beyond climate and media control, including stock price checks and ski slope conditions. Navigation runs on Google Maps with a Google Cloud AI Agent for conversational searches, down to finding available parking mid-drive.

Powertrains Built Around Efficiency, With a Hybrid Option

The petrol lineup covers three output levels of the M 254 EVO four-cylinder — 130 kW (177 hp) in the C 200 up to 190 kW (258 hp) in the C 300 — all supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with a second-generation starter-generator. Diesel buyers get the OM 654 EVO in two states of tune, compatible with HVO100 and biodiesel blends. For plug-in hybrid buyers, the C 400 e 4MATIC combines the petrol engine with an electric motor for up to 290 kW (395 hp) combined, plus up to 100 km of WLTP electric range from a 19.53 kWh battery, chargeable at up to 55 kW on DC fast chargers.

Everyday Usability and Driving Feel

Rear-axle steering returns, now cutting the turning circle by 43 cm to 10.64 meters, and Mercedes says the suspension has been retuned for more agility without giving up long-distance comfort. The Estate's cargo area holds 490 liters, expanding to 1,510 liters with the seats folded.

Positioning in a Crowded Segment

With this update spanning every C-Class variant — petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid — Mercedes is positioning the car against the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4/A5, leaning on updated driver-assistance packages and the AI-driven MBUX system as its main talking points against those rivals.
